Digital drawing of a striking white bird whose feathers are all edged in black, creating a stunning pattern. It has a red comb and wattles and a golden eye. It is holding a tiny bouquet of flowers with pink, blue, and white petals in the colors of the trans flag.

Have a Wyandotte chicken for today's #ArtAdventCalendar!

Had a good time drawing these feather patterns. This was another in my #TransArtMay project. You can browse that hashtag to see the others! Trans rights forever! πŸ’œ

Seriously, this.

In researching which trans charity to give to for this work thing, the same small handful of names kept coming up again and again and again on the anti- side. This isn't a mass movement, it's fewer than 20 persistent, moderately rich arseholes backed by one extremely rich arsehole.

Within the new clothing; trade, linen lost
its centrality, and the labor of linen's historic producers -women- flowed into new and unfamiliar channels. But this alone would not have been enough to launch the global garment trade as we know it. That relied on two other crucial elements: the colonial dominatior of one part of the world by another, and the international slave trade. These two forces built the cotton trade.

this book is well written, has excellent politics, is deeply informative...and consequently a huge bummer

Absolute Units podcast - The Museum of English Rural Life Come for the big sheep. Stay for the history of rural England and its people.

New Absolute Units is live! Listen to part 2 of our conversation with @georgemonbiot.bsky.social.

We discuss the history of land access and capitalism, the ramifications of enclosure on Britain's former colonies, and the necessary work of de-enclosure today.

If you're new to cooking or don't trust yourself to recognize a bad AI recipe, for the love on god, do not just use random recipes from random profiles. Find trustworthy sites and creators (Serious Eats, NYT Cooking, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, Alton Brown) and search their archives for what you need.

Wow... almost a thousand dollars in just the first few hours. Honestly I feel like a character in a corny holiday movie who lost her Christmas spirit so the town comes together to help her get it back. Except the "town" is bluesky. Thank you so much everyone. πŸ₯Ή

Molly's Holiday Fundraiser 2025 Make Winter Merry and Bright in Honor of Fergus

I love Christmas and normally I'd be getting so excited right about now, but this year I'm a little down because it's our first holiday since we lost Fergus. I'm hoping I can spread some cheer and regain a little spirit myself by raising some funds for our local shelter! givebutter.com/n5l31M

Can't decide which one to submit! Do you have a favorite among these 8?

1) buff-tip moth in 2 poses
2) would you still love me earthworm
3) green-lipped mussel spat
4) red-banded leafhopper

(choices 5-8 in comment!)

Like vaccines denialists, I feel being able to say "birth is totally safe" with a straight face can only be the result of a generation that both
1) Has no living relatives that remember when that was not the case, and
2) Does not own a library card/history book.

Today is #TransDayOfRemembrance. Trans people and their human rights are under attack around the globe. The Vagina Museum stands defiant against these attacks. We are a proudly trans inclusive space, even as discourse grows ever more toxic.

It's almost like every warning from economic experts about Brexit was true. Imagine that. And yet, many people who voted for Brexit are now turning to Farage - the very architect of Britain's economic downfall. The absolute madness of all this.

"Absolute Units, Halloween Special. A podcast from The Museum of English Rural Life."

Though the podcast artwork for Absolute Units usually shows verdant green fields and a blue sky, things look awfully sinister for this Halloween bonus episode.

Three giant sheep float over fields lit a menacing purple. A dead tree stands on one hill, while another features an eerie gothic tower. A Jack-o-lantern also takes centre-stage - a pumpkin carved with a wicked grin.

A tattered red bandana from that period.

The coal miners lost that 1921 battle, but they also laid the groundwork for future labor gains. The Battle of Blair Mountain became a rallying point for labor rights in Appalachia, catalyzing the United Mine Workers of America. The red bandana also stood for multi-ethnic class solidarity.
