Reminds me of the story of the programmer of Starflight, upon discovering the fractal based method of random generating worlds in the game (one of the first instances of that kind of PCG), then proceeded to have a mental breakdown about the nature of the universe.

You may think fandom being horrible is some modern thing, but like all things we have always been here.

Yes - and the assumption often made that oh the people falling for this must somehow be kinda robotic emotionally themselves, like techbros, is mistaken... At least in my life it's the most empathetic folks - the folks most willing to anthropomorphize it - that get sucked in the most.

Not that the "lesser" is somehow devalued, but, especially by comparing them side to side, that we are not literate enough to tell the difference - but one exists, and it is crucial to all of this.

Not to be all cynical about creative work, it's just the gap between a 3 second video and the pouring out of yourself into a work of art itself can be years, and is itself a by product of all the years of your life lived thus far.

And when people go oh wow it did some level of thinking that produced some productive, maybe even creative work result for them, it's not that it was impressive.

It's that the creative act you were trying to perform wasn't that impressive to begin with.

That it must be sentient in order to do these things.

The technology exploits a fundamental flaw, or feature, of our own hardware.

The complex reality is this is what you get when you absorb the world's available text and form a machine to regurgitate it.
