They also promised the auto industry some "temporary pain". They won all the states with auto plants and their tariffs are going a long way towards the pain part but I think they were lying about the temporary part. It's union-busting straight out of Taft-Harley.

It doesn't "smack of" political interference, it ***is*** political interference. They promised voters mass deportations and McCarthy-style investigations of Democrats and *that* is the oath they are choosing to uphold, not the one to protect and defend the Constitution.

Us older folks have a different view ... before Reagan, there was Nixon ... and Joe McCarthy ... and Barry Goldwater ... and Robert Taft. It's been a steady decline since FDR died, punctuated only by the LBJ landslide in 1964. Reagan was just the last one to wipe the floor with a Democrat.
