That's super interesting - I guess because as a buyer of rp books, I tend to gravitate to the rules, and be a bit 'yea whatever' about the theme.

That said, some themes do then emerge for me from rules systems and really grab my attention (I'm looking at you, Eclipse Phase).

So - are you saying that you think one is better off presenting an rpg system with a setting, rather than without one?

Screens! (And I don't mean DM screens although I find them a bit useless)

I mean phones, computers, ipads or whatnot. They're inherently disengaging. Between a few pages of notes and your imagination you've got everything covered. Being there WITH your players is handsdown the priority.

It is tempting, as a Teller, to want to know the world in its entirety; from the unceasing trees that will grow over us when we are long dead, to the stars that burn with a light from before we thought to wonder at them. But selectiveness is an art, and you cannot know all.

SPINE has been my passion project for six months or so. It really took over my brain, and I couldn't get it out until I made it. That said, it's not your typical commercially viable ttrpg.
