Genuinely, if this happens, it is blatantly against any federal law, and quite literally throws the Constitution out the window. The US would no longer be a union of states.

Obligatory sign tap, this is a direct and flagrant violation of the Emoluments Clause, a Congress that wasn’t completely broken and complicit in Trump’s crimes would impeach him for this by the end of the day, yadda yadda, you already know this and I’m tired.

The Constitution requires that states keep a “republican form of government”, which seems incompatible with a governor deciding by fiat that a bunch of elections don’t count.

One thing about having someone like Trump as president is questions that would ordinarily be horrendously misogynistic become reasonable to ask because Trump absolutely would trade sex for influence.

A massive regressive national sales tax imposed upon every American by a president with no constitutional authority to impose a national sales tax. The reason why the founders gave this power to Congress is because this would never pass any Congress- even this one.

The thing is, it did kind of use to be true. If you needed votes to get a bill passed you’d ask the most moderate members of the other party “What’ll it take to get you on board?” And put that in the bill. That had a moderating effect. But that’s gone. Just doesn’t happen anymore.

The story of how Trump sells access to the White House - to benefit himself and his family financially and to benefit his political operation - is shocking and sordid.

No President has ever monetized access like Trump has.
