The GTHA Is Pricing Out Its Workforce (And Risking Its Future)
From Mississauga to Scarborough, Hamilton to downtown Toronto, the very people who keep our cities functioning are being priced out of them.
storeys.com/gtha-pricing...
GTA Households earning $40-$125K are being squeezed out. These are our nurses, teachers, cops, road workers, etc.
When cities don't build, we see who among us they do not value. Hope they remember this when services slow, and wait times increase.

Your tax dollars are being used to reward municipal govts for failing to address the housing crisis.
Set a higher bar from local govts. Demand better. No more slush funds for all 3 levels of govt to transfer between each other while they avoid actually DOING something. #housingcrisis

Peel Region Votes To Lower Development Charges By 50%
In an effort to spur housing development and make homes in Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga more affordable.
We can't spend our way out of this housing crisis. We need true policy reform that will get homes built.
Cutting DCs by 50% is, at best, a modest step in the right direction. It doesn't achieve a damn thing if municipal govts continue to block housing locally.

We call on @gregorrobertson.bsky.social to consider whether @toronto.ca HAF dollars should be re-allocated. If our tax dollars are meant to go towards building homes, then they don't belong in the hands of cities who block housing.
What's the point of Strong Mayor Powers if they don't use them?

Myth: #Toronto allows unrestricted housing development.
The truth is that it has the same outdated restrictions as suburbs like #Mississauga. Yesterday's decision on 6-plexes show that Toronto's leaders are not ready to take even the most modest action to address the housing crisis.

City council is debating legalizing small apartment buildings on residential streets. This is why it must allow them
City council is debating sixplexes in residential neighbourhoods. Allowing them is vital, writes Eric Lombardi.
To our friends in #Toronto, pls raise your voice today to support @moreneighboursto.bsky.social by calling or emailing your local City Councillor to encourage them to vote YES to citywide sixplexes (PH22.4).

The federal govt definitely has a role to play in solving our housing crisis, but constantly demanding federal solutions to provincial and municipal policy failures is misleading.
Carney, Poilievre, and Singh can't fix zoning. Or parking minimums. Or permitting.

To all those who ran in Canada's election: Congratulations on a well-fought outcome.
To the media: Now that it's over, please stop asking feds about housing when those with the most immediate power to solve our crisis are the provinces and the municipalities. We're begging.

If you're heading to the polls today, swing by Mississauga City Hall and ask the anti-housing protesters why their signs were made by 'Markham Voice'. We'd love to know.
When you have to bring in your NIMBYs from out of town, you do NOT represent the people of this city. #housing

This is such a common #housing myth that it's practically cliche
Housing is not just for "new residents". It's for current residents too. God forbid a resident of the city wants to move our of their parents' home, afford a place in the city they grew up in, or make the leap from renting to owning.

Interesting anti-housing protest in Erin Mills today.
The group held up signs repurposed from a previous Markham protest (zoom in on the bottom of the yellow sign - they tried to hide it).
Looks like NIMBYs from outside of #Mississauga are running an astroturf campaign in our city.

What should Toronto area mayors do during a trade war? Build.
Every level of government has a role to play in dealing with the current crisis. Ontario municipalities should not be permitted to shirk their responsibilities.
New op-ed from our Exec. Director in @thestar.com today.
Ontario cities are not standing with Team Canada to protect our economy - especially, and crucially, our housing economy.
Time to join the fight. Call your local Councillor today.

Mississauga voters (and all Ontarians) deserve engaged leaders willing to discuss their solutions to the housing crisis.

Residents Say NO to the Streetsville HCD
#mississauga is forcing a 'Heritage' designation on Streetsville. This will restrict housing development near a GO station, and strip residents of their property rights.
Residents showed up to say NO to the HCD.

In b4 you think this is a good reason for #Mississauga to exit Peel.
We are the worst performer in Peel when it comes to expanding its tax base with more housing. Here's our progress on meeting our 2024 housing target:
Brampton: 44.78%
Caledon: 38.41%
Mississauga: 22.38%

Cllr Tedjo shared this image on bsky from the Peel budget meetings.
π’ Basic math: If you increase your taxpayer base by building more homes, you don't have to skyrocket taxes on any residents.
Instead, Peel residents will be eating a big, avoidable property tax hike.

In #Streetsville, the goal is to block new housing from coming to the community.
The local councillor and staff are steamrolling homeowners' property rights, just to make it harder to build homes, under the guise of preserving heritage.
