The very big and not tinted enough windows at MSY.
I keep trying to find something to like about MSY, but I keep finding reasons not to.

I teach high school African American Studies and AP Comp Sci. Louisiana GLTOY 2023. M.Ed in Ed Tech. Illness stopped MA in History. I am the second-best teacher and third-smartest person in my house. If we don’t count the cats.

Sometimes, the right song by a band that never gets played comes on when you need it.

7yo: When we clean up the playroom
Me: Hold up, we? It's your playroom.
7yo: Yes, but it is in your house, so you own it, which means it's OUR responsibility.

The state elects people who only enact performative legislation instead of addressing real issues. This is true even when right and left agree, like on home insurance.
This day, the anniversaries of Katrina and Ida, overload us with emotions and memories.
But there is a bigger family I don't want to leave. Not just blood family, but friends. People, who, when I'm around, my cajun accent gets thick. I could do without the heat and the storms, but I would miss the swamp sunsets.
It is getting harder to stay.
But we did, and it's an amazing facility.
I still love teaching. I love my community and my culture. I love the idea that on the way home, we might see an alligator in the canal.
My immediate family could leave and start somewhere away from the storms.
I was hired not long after in a neighboring parish. The school accepted me, a teacher already there and I fell in love, and now this is my home.
Four years ago, Ida damaged my roof and siding, while forcing the roof at my present school to collapse.
It took a while to come back.
I worked in New Orleans Public Schools 20 years ago until August 29th.
I had the means to escape the storm, but many of my students didn't.
Over the years, thanks to social media, I've been able to find many of them again. Most are doing so well that it makes my heart smile to see their posts.
I’ve never seen it put that way, and I now realize that is exactly how and why I pray.
28.08.2025 23:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I just lost my BiL to brain cancer. He did get the best treatment, but my dear sister-in-law had to deal with too many people who suggested the dumbest things. The worst part is that they manipulate others through guilt.
There is a special place in hell for these people.
Well, that is my favorite song on my favorite album.
Going outside of it, Into the Groove always makes me want to dance. And I never want to dance.
Before I started today, I reflected on yesterday’s lesson. I focused on what I was thankful for, what I (not the students) wanted to accomplish today, and, most importantly, for what I wanted to give myself grace.
Today was the best day I've had in a while in the classroom.

Saw them at the Cherry Blossom parade a few years back.
So sorry 💔

…not sure why Computer Science is on their schedule; they are showing up and working hard to learn it. I'm dedicating this year to meeting the kids where they are, but I will not let them stay there.
Year 26 and I still love this job. Mostly 🤣
If I could get my sleep schedule on an actual schedule, this would be one of the best starts to school yet. While I was dealing with a personal tragedy (BIL lost battle to cancer), the students were kind and forgiving - more than I was. And even for my class that is made up mostly of kids…

Glass Onion has to be Ed Norton’s worst role. He played the character way too smart to be based on Musk.

It was eerily similar to New Orleans Public Schools before Katrina. I had two working lights and only got them fixed because I worked nights at Comp USA and sold the Assistant Super a computer.
I really want a member of the press corps to ask Trump who is the alpha when he and Musk are in the same room. Go for the only thing he cares about—his ego.

This is especially true if it is a large corporation.
