There is no budget "deal" to be made President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...

What past education technology failures can teach us about the future of AI in schools It can take years to collect evidence that shows effective uses of new technologies in schools. Unfortunately, early guesses sometimes go seriously wrong.

I thought that song also had late 90s Built to Spill vibes or maybe even a little Weezer Blue album to it

(It was, unsurprisingly, my favorite song on the album)

Utah loves Trump. It didnโ€™t stop him from taking a chainsaw to one of its largest employers. What happened when Elon & Co. started slashing?

โ€ฆItโ€™s a lot like this favorite diagram of mine only instead of โ€œdecades old theoryโ€ itโ€™s โ€œtechnical informationโ€ and instead of โ€œbackground assumption no one is aware ofโ€ itโ€™s โ€œbasic information expert has forgotten that not everyone already knowsโ€

โ€ฆThe challenge then is that experts often become unaware of the smaller individual discrete knowledge in their chunks and therefore do not break their bigger chunks down into smaller byte sized parts for the non-expertsโ€ฆ

The story of 2024 is this: Trump had a plan to destroy American government called Project 2025, which had, literally, not a typo, a 4% approval rating. He lied constantly and said he wouldn't do it.

Then he entered office and immediately implemented AN EVEN MORE EXTREME VERSION OF IT.

(This is all to say that I think youโ€™re on to something that truly charismatic leaders willing to depart from a status quo and do tend to go sideways from the institutional church at some point and that institutional leaders are selected based on their willingness to perpetuate the status quo)

โ€ฆwe studied Nauvoo era Mormonism for a week and I wrote my course paper on JSmithโ€™s development of the concept of Mormon Zion and the takeaway question I had (and still gave) from that class was: is Mormonismโ€™s โ€˜Zionโ€™ truly utopian? And, do LDS folks still even believe in the 10th article of faith?

In Arch school, I took a history class on utopian communities. We differentiated utopias from other visionary communities based on whether or not the community differed from the status quo in some way. (Utopias changed some aspect of the status quo while visionary comma extended the status quo)โ€ฆ

And even then, Danโ€™s work isnโ€™t focused much on the sort of the traditional prophetic things dealing with societal actions as it is more focused on the specific issue of scriptural interpretation (this is a good thing). Maybe Mr. Roger would be an even better example of todayโ€™s charismatic prophet?

^Certainly none have leaned on their charisma to prophecy or to prophetically advocate a call to action on some issue

In racking my brains to recall institutional leaders approximating something close to โ€œprophecyโ€ the only thing that kept coming to mind was GBHโ€™s counsel to avoid financial debt, and that was almost 30 years ago

Why journalists are reluctant to call Trump an authoritarian โ€“ and why that matters for democracy Media framing shapes peopleโ€™s understanding of the world. A political communication scholar says that journalistic outletsโ€™ failure to call Donald Trump an authoritarian is a problem for democracy.

Much of what President Trump has done fits classic signs of authoritarianism.

Journalists hesitate to use the word, but a communications scholar argues the U.S. is โ€œwell past that point.โ€
