New YouGov polling. A monumental failure of our political class to educate, a monumental failure of our media to report fairly, for a generation

No. It isn’t β€œabsolutely right”
These protests are the result of endless disinformation and a wholly prejudiced debate on immigration as well as govts’ refusal to take responsibility for their own failure to support communities, clear the backlogs and argue firmly for the benefits of immigration.

I think it’s worth noting this piece generated the most unsubscribes I’ve seen in a while, and the newsletter version had the lowest open rate in many months. These horrors persist in part because too many people go to great pains to avoid them.

As someone actually trained in behavioural psychologyβ€”unlike most MPsβ€”I can tell you: financial precarity doesn’t β€œincentivise” sick people to work. It breaks them. Stress worsens health. Fear doesn’t create productivity. It creates collapse. #TakingThePIP

UK sickle cell patients β€˜get worse care than sufferers of similar disorders’ Study commissioned by NHS finds that sickle cell disease care lags behind that for conditions such as cystic fibrosis People living with sickle cell disease face substandard care as its treatment significantly lags behind advances relating to other genetic disorders such as cystic fibrosis, a report has found. The study, commissioned by the NHS Race and Health Observatory and carried out by researchers at Imperial College London, analysed various measures of care for sickle cell disease between 2010 and 2024, including clinical trials, approved drugs and reviews of existing studies. Reading all the responses is an excellent way to start the day. Also, we have a winner:

Policymakers who think AI can help rescue flagging UK economy should take heed | Heather Stewart Healthy scepticism is needed because flaw is that large language models remain prone to casually making things up

β€˜β€œbecause the models are not set up to solve problems, or to reason, but to predict the most plausible-sounding sentence based on the reams of data they have hoovered up, a better word for their factual hiccups is not β€œhallucinations” but β€œbullshit”.’

Two things almost everyone misunderstands about AI:

1) They can't visit a particular web page, so it's useless pasting a URL into the chat.

2) They know nothing reliable about how they themselves work.

But because they've been designed to please, they are likely to hallucinate answers to 1 and 2.

Cancer Research UK today published a report which highlights changes in cancer survival rates over the last 50 years.

Many headlines (like this one from the Guardian) have chosen to report the β€˜doubling of cancer survival rates’ since the 1970s.

But that's misleading...

Thank you - interested to know if research is looking into whether tech like AVT has a negative impact on clinical outcome ever? Do we lose clinical insights into our patients if we only edit AI summaries of consults and haven't had to think through the issues to write them in the first place?

I'm boycotting a large online retailer so I ordered a gift from www.sensorytoys.co.uk - it cost a little more, and took a little longer to arrive, than its big competitor, and it was so very worth it 😊
