At #EPOP2025, we were delighted to award Pippa Norris the 2025 Sir David Butler Prize for Lifetime Contribution to the Study of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties.

Around this threshold, assignment to new parties is as good as random. So, presumably, I could use this design but swap turnout for fragmentation.

I presented this at @psaepop.bsky.social and showed that adding a 3rd party to a 2 party race increase fragmentation by ≈0.7 effective parties.
