Which is why I think the demand should not be SOLELY about subsidies but also about reining in the fascists. The health care issue is an important one but it’s not the only thing we are fighting over. It’s also in republicans interests to extend it so we should be able to get more from them.

keep dying! What if it leads to 5M additional deaths here in the U.S. because fascism wins and ICE or the red state national guards start shooting civilians en masse or Civil War 2 breaks out?

I’m not saying the answer is not to extend the subsidies but this is a legit question to wrestle with.

But let’s say 10% (probably too high) will die without health insurance. That’s 400K deaths. I don’t want that! We should prevent it if we can! But what if preventing it leads to 10M deaths because Republicans keep control of Congress, USAID stays shuttered and the poorest people around the world

I don’t know how else to explain to you that a lot of people are going to die either way. The question is not β€œcan we save anyone?” The question is β€œwho do we save and when?” Saving people by extending the ACA subsidy is good! I am for that! 4M people that keep their health insurance!

Sorry, you mean about COVID? Yeah I disagree with him there. But on the ACA it’s risky because it insulates the GOP from consequences. I think the answer is do it anyway but only if we get real concessions from the GOP on impoundment and their ongoing destruction of the government.

It is entirely possible that doing the right thing by making sure the ACA subsidies don’t vanish is what saves Trump and the GOP in 2026. Will it have been worth it? No way to know in advance. So it’s a risk. And we should talk about it rather than hiding from it.

09.10.2025 15:09 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It does suck. A lot of but that’s where MAGA has left us. We can decide that we should make the trade-off Leonid is describing, but pretending it’s not a trade-off is asinine.

When the Supreme Court struck down Biden's policies, it was tempting to think: "At least these limits on executive authority will bind Trump if he comes back into office." But noβ€”the court's skepticism of executive power vanished on Jan. 20, 2025. This dynamic is obvious to anyone paying attention!

should be able to do whatever he wants and the Framers got it wrong by imposing any constraints. In a very real sense they overthrew the Constitution. It’s not treason only because of the very specific definition in the Constitution itself. It’s certainly sedition, though.

by all historical evidence of what the Framers and past Presidents believed about their ability to be criminally prosecuted, and that would destroy the Republic and give us the King that George Washington refused to become. They decided to amend the constitution on their own because they think POTUS

09.10.2025 12:32 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Correct. Trump v. US wasn’t just β€œwrong” or β€œstretching a definition” or putting a partisan thumb on the scale, all of which would be bad. They invented, out of whole cloth, a theory of immunity contradicted by everything in the constitutional structure, by the plain text of the Federalist Papers,

09.10.2025 12:31 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Trump vs. US was the final straw imo. You cannot read that ruling and continue believing they have legitimacy. It is not only against the plain text of the constitution, it is anathema to the national ethos. It is offensively, insultingly un-American and they ceded legitimacy by committing that sin.

I don’t think he fooled anyone. I think his stroke severely messed with his brain. All the signs are there.

Red Sox fans waited 86 fucking years with only 4 chances in between, shut up.

I’m not really sure what the β€œother option” was meant to be on 10/7. I think it should be relatively unobjectionable that 1 was met. 2 was where 10/7 went horrifically awry.

Instead they decided to commit a massive set of atrocities on camera.

Yeah I really don’t get it. β€œArmed resistance against oppression is justified” is not the same thing as β€œGo rape, torture, murder and kidnap civilians, including children.” How do these psychos keep messing this up?

If Hamas had just overrun several IDF bases I’d be 100% on their side for 10/7.

This administration is flooding the zone so furiously that people have largely lost track of the lethal attacks on boats in the Caribbean, the gov’t shutdown, the economy, failed release of the Epstein files & so much else. It’s a tactic of would-be strongmen.

The illegal USAID cuts are the thing that broke me

A complete dismantling of constitutional governance in order to facilitate crimes against humanity

What Trump, Musk, the Supreme Court, etc have done to these families is beyond cruel, beyond heartbreaking, beyond unforgivable

08.10.2025 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 280    πŸ” 116    πŸ’¬ 8    πŸ“Œ 1

USAID was a net positive in basically every way and Musk killed it, and untold numbers of people, because he’s as racist as he is stupid and he’s as stupid as he is evil.

I wanted her to run back when there was nobody else and I didn’t know who could hear Collins. Platner exists now. There’s no need for her except Schumer doesn’t like people to the left of Reagan.

Also, the link you added is discussing an entirely different scenario, not fully federalizing and deploying the Guard.

I don’t know why you’re so determined to argue this point. We all agree that what Trump is doing is prohibited.
