she is literally playing politics. This is such a massive budget for the government with potentially a lot of blowback, to throw this in there now just feels so cynical.
But...saying that, she may be right. Breaking those manifesto pledges could be irrecoverable.

of course....he knows there might be a leadership election next year and he wants to win over the lefty membership...much like Starmer did, much like Jenrick/Lam are doing in the tories.

Income tax can do that, those with highest incomes pay more.
Sure go for wealth taxes, but they are not always successful or popular...income tax simple, and an raise a large and predictable amount.

Yeah, put up income tax. Simple, progressive, and wide coverage. We need to get over the idea of low taxes and get real.

05.11.2025 21:33 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

nah, stick up income tax. A lot of it comes from wealthy people anyway.

Labour won the last election with a big majority but low percentage on a very wide but thin coalition. They're obviously trying, but so far failing, to keep that coalition, because things are shit and they're making mistakes and there's all these other parties.

well, they made those manifesto pledges for electoral reasons, and they thought they could avoid it...and they are timing speech now because budget is in a few weeks and due to OBR downgrading forecast and welfare cut uturn they have little choice but to break those pledges.

could end up with McSweeney remaining and Streeting replacing Starmer...I'm sure everyone would love that.

Well...it isn't just as simple as us wanting to rejoin, there is also this thing called the EU that has to agree, and on what terms.
It won't be happening anytime soon. If ever.
