Chicago's federal courthouse is already built like a fortress. It's been surrounded by this big fuck off metal fence since the start of September, & you can only get inside through security stations. US marshals inside as well.
Sending natl. guard to the courthouse too is just fall-of-Rome cosplay

Illinois and Chicago file a suit seeking injunctive relief against the deployment of national guard units in Chicagoland that largely tracks the successful suits filed by California and Oregon. It was a bunch of people praying and singing. Local cops cleared a path for a fascist propaganda op and then assisted federal forces in brutalizing protesters. Those are the facts.

Update: horrifying details about last night's raid are emerging.
Organizers + electeds are reporting potentially dozens of people (at least 40 per initial estimate) were detained. Not much more confirmed at this time.
More will be shared at press conference at 5 at corner of 75th & South Shore.
In the last two weeks these feds have choked & beaten protesters, broken bones, given people concussions from munitions, pointed their sidearms at people, tear gassed a neighborhood, shot reporters in the face, destroyed neighbors' property, threatened elected officials

Thatβs why, to my mind, this is the worst decision from the Supreme Court of Trumpβs second term so far. Not just in terms of impactβthough subjecting thousands of immigrants to torture in foreign countries is ghastly. But also in terms of what signal it sends to the lower courts and the executive branch. The court has indicated that Trump and his allies can flout the law, make a huge mess, run up to the Supreme Court demanding relief when theyβre restrained by a judge, and win that relief no matter how egregiously they misbehaved. What incentive remains for this administration to comply with lower court orders at all? I donβt see one.
I am not exaggerating when I say the Supreme Courtβs unsigned, unexplained order yesterday is the worst thing it has done since Trump returned to office. And not just on the meritsβitβs also an unfathomably dangerous green light for Trump to flout lower court orders. slate.com/news-and-pol...
