Regarding the indie game coverage conversation, I'm just thinking of how many indie-focused media sites have shut down over the years. And that's from before Google nuked us all.

yeah the harsh reality is that we do take a chance on small games no one's heard of a lot more often than anyone thinks we do. but literally no one reads the articles, which then reinforces to the powers that be that they're not worth doing. I don't know how to solve that problem!

Why are so many government websites garbage? I'm trying to pay my student loan and I can't log in because it's stuck in a loop. Reminds me of all the 404 pages I've hith on New York gov sites too.

You tend to see this a lot on Roblox, both for predatory monetization and simpler stuff too. Aside from gacha in almost every game, I'll occasionally experience insane grinds that modern MMOs have mostly moved on from. Like, instead of kill 15 mobs, it's 50 or 100.

Far from the first time Google is using AI to make up information and attributing it to websites, ruining their reputation. I've seen this a few times with gaming guides I've written where the AI overviews are outright wrong while citing me. It's frustrating.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea
