I think Vince Gilligan's at least proven he can write stories where something other than Pure Villainous Malice motivates the antagonist. So I think it'll be an interesting test of Vince's personal character, to see whether he just plays the hive off as a stock villain or does for something else...

That would certainly be the usual trope, and I will be at least a little bit disappointed if that's where he goes. I feel like society's just on the verge of being able to root for a hivemind. But yeah, 99% of shows would just have it turn out to be Evil Actually. I *pray* Pluribus is different.

Not that they necessarily had bad points, and that's one of the things I do really like about this show so far. It's still likely that this is gonna be a show about Carol finding out she was (quite understandably imho) overreacting a little, and accepting she can coexist with Everyone Else...

Something about the characterization of the other 11 "survivors" felt really flat to me too, honestly. I would have really liked to see some less stereotypical people, and I would've have liked to see someone give Carol a *real* argument instead of letting her seem like the only one who Gets It.

My hope is that it's "anti-collectivist" the same way that writers used to make jokes that were superficially anti-drug so they'd get past TV censors, but if you looked at the subtexts you could tell they were all written by stoners... I mean, so far the hivemind hasn't actually been *wrong*...

Though to be fair, this might be a trojan horse tactic on Vince's part. Compared to, say, It Conquered the World or the '78 Body Snatchers it practically comes off as an endorsement of hiveminds, yanno what I mean? But I could see it going either way tbh. I *hope* he's self-aware about it.

Especially if it means no more pathological narcissists, ever. Or at least a cure for humanity's bizarre compulsion to keep giving them authority. Right now I think I'd give just about anything for that.

I'm 100% willing to start slobbering alien RNA onto doorknobs if that's what it takes. >_<
