15.10.2025 08:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The mandatory signage on the EU passport lane says "EU/EEA/CH Citizens", in English, plus local language(s).
Honestly, I am unsighted as to what additional verbiage is required to make that clearer. A residence card does not grant citizenship.
...and this isn't even a Brexity wish fulfilment thing. Plenty of non-UK permanent residents who would like to be able to get off the plane and go to their homes without the ritual othering on arrival we are currently subjected to.)
13.10.2025 13:26 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0(And yes, FAOD (selfishly) I really wish @consilium.europa.eu would change this - now the non-EU line will be even slower, it just seems spiteful not to let EU residents use the EU lane - particularly as the biometric residence card is technically perfectly capable of operating the eGates as well...
13.10.2025 13:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0But permanent residence holders have never been entitled to use the EU/EEA/CH lanes. So it is true to say nothing has changed for us - we still queue in the same queue, and we won't have to give fingerprints/face scans (not least, because we already did when we got our biometric residence cards.)
13.10.2025 13:14 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It's not at all unclear - you are not entitled to use the EU/EEA/CH passport line. The rules are entirely clear - you queue in the non-EU line.
You might *get away* with using the EU line, but that's just luck.
I wish it wasn't so (I also have EU perm residence,) but it's not ambiguous.
Oh fuck. LinkedIn have found BlueSky.
This is what happens when you say "Dubai" three times in front of the mirror...
People keep telling me the UK is so over and they're going to move to Dubai and, like, fine. Go on then. Would you like directions to the airport?

Started on Chinese now. Will probably never make it past 謝謝, but I'm telling myself it will help keep my brain active/delay cognitive decline.
This is a very good reason to avoid Dreamliners. The other being that it's a Boeing.
(And it's not the pilot doing that, it's the cabin crew knowing they can kick back in the galley for a chat (and hand out fewer freebies) if it's dark. Enshittification of air travel continues apace.)
Ah, then fair enough. I wasn't listening to the lunatic on the radio so hard to be sure :-)

I'm over thinking this, ignore...)
Without wishing to argue your basic point, surely a binary search is only relevant when searching in an ordered set (i.e. when you bisect the set, you know if your answer is before or after the cut.) That doesn't seem to apply to searching for a random event in a video feed..?
08.10.2025 06:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I am here to shill for `just` instead. OK, it's not a replacement for what `make` was designed to be good for (but who is using plain make for that these days...,) but it's a much better replacement for what everyone *actually* uses it for.
I really, really like it:

Hell, it's the same in Romania, one of the poorest countries in Europe.
(And yeah, it's imperfect, God knows our system needs investment. But you *will* get care, even if the hospital looks like it might fall down around your ears...)

...is it just gaming isn't your bag (in which case fair enough, although damn I'd love to introduce you to some great stuff ;-),) or gaming just isn't ready to be treated as 'art', or...?
As I say, no criticism, I was just reading & thinking it and figured why not ask. Congrats again on great book.
...of the texts referenced, and I feel like the post-apocalyptic section is missing a whole genre of art (ironic that The Last Of Us gets a callout as a TV series but not the video game that it's a remake of.)
Not intended as a criticism, more a curiosity - why is that, do you think?...
Really enjoying "Everything Must Go" @dorianlynskey.bsky.social, it's made my last couple of long fights fly by (ouch...) One thought crossed my mind though, especially in the Androids bit - it feels to me like you're missing gaming! "Detroit: Become Human" has as much original to say as any...

Goddammit. I like RustRover, but I am sick to back teeth of having to turn off shitty autocomplete features that magically turn back on, I have zero faith the new "steal your code" button won't do the same. @jetbrains.com
The iPhone only exists to sell subscriptions. Apple isn't a hardware company, it's a services company that sells hardware in order to get you tied into those services.
02.10.2025 15:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0(Can, and probably have or already had - here in Romania for non-EU citizens there is a language requirement for permanent residence, as well as stuff like criminal record check, 5 yrs continuous legal residence etc. It is less demanding than the citizenship requirements though.)
30.09.2025 21:52 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That was definitely some local oddity, because trying to do that before Brexit would be completely illegal - you didn't need to ask/apply/be granted a right to remain, you already had it. All you needed at most was to register your presence.
Post-Brexit though, absolutely they can.
No-one clutches their pearls harder than a racist being called a racist.
