Well, eventually it fades. But we were luckier than some other families whose kids had also been attending a high school a couple of years previously where a really awful mass shooting had taken place. Twice in a few years and yet nothing is done by the govt. it sucks.

It’s truly awful to be both a student and a parent of one these days. My son was at Michigan State the year they had a shooter on campus. My heart was in my stomach until I spoke to him.

My son wanted to visit his teachers, too. In the US, you can’t wander around the school during school hours anymore unless you’re a student. So he had to try after school let out, but the ones he wanted to see had already left. :(

It’s an interesting juxtaposition on the separation of church and state…

I would eat neither duck nor swan, nor goose, really. And all bunnies are too cute to eat. I think the horse issue in America has to do with historic dislike of the French and us prizing racehorses. And possibly disease? Although people here eat venison. And bison. Humans. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Carrying the pain today of not being able to help my child see that life isn’t hopeless and that dulling the pain with things I rather they wouldn’t isn’t a solution. I’m struggling with how not to let their emotions drive mine and not feel angry that their behavior makes my happiness difficult.
