I've always thought there was a couple vibe between Joey and Kincaid, especially in 4. So you can view the seductresses as representing Joey's repressed sexuality (since they turn out to be Freddy in disguise).

Scott Snyder really gave it his all with Zero Year and the best anyone can do now is say, "Eh, they both happened, kinda" even though it directly contradicts Year One quite often.

It's particularly funny in season 4 when there's really no reason for him to be there. He kind of sort of knows stuff about the Initiative but not really. So he spends half the season tied up at Giles' house!

Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers is both a great read and a trippy journey through the more obscure mystical corner of DC (not just Zatanna but Klarion the Witch Boy, Frankenstein, the Shining Knight). Worth a look if you haven't read it!

Mathis was in Pump Up the Volume (1990), FernGully (1992), and Broken Arrow (1996) with Christian Slater, and Broken Arrow and The Punisher (2004) with John Travolta.

This is important. This means something.

Yours totally fits, too! It's not like Cutter is making coherent references (Marx, but in the Boston Symphony Orchestra). He's just showing off trying to talk over everyone's head.

Interesting! I watched the movie through the library app Kanopy and the captions says "Rastus," and I hear a hard T, but I can't find a script draft online to confirm. You could be right, and at the least I've learned a new literary reference. Thanks so much for reading!

BLAWG! I wrote about recent horrible events in Minneapolis through the lens of a pretty great movie that's all about what you saw and what you think you saw.

Two I've watched recently:

The Silent Partner (1978) -Elliott Gould is a bank teller who robs the robber (Christopher Plummer) robbing the bank.
Night of the Juggler (1980) - a kidnapper mistakenly gets the wrong girl, James Brolin's chases them to get his daughter back.

Something a lot of people miss in the movie is the war starts because Mormons invade arachnid territory. From that point on, everything the humans do is aggressive no matter how "subtly" (not subtle at all) Verhoeven frames their actions because the arachnids are just defending themselves!

You may already plan to get into this with issue 10, but it's fascinating that McFarlane named Wanda and Cyan after his own wife and (then baby) daughter. Spawn seems to become McFarlane in issue 10. Making his transforming into a white man as, I don't know, a metaphor for working for Marvel/DC?

Not really defending the casting of Thomas Jane, but McCoy could be a badass at times.

I recently read a lot of early to mid-'80s Spider-Man comics. It's amazing how many girlfriends and potential love interests Peter had during those graduate school years while MJ was out of the book.

There's a throwaway comment in the live-action 2017 BatB where he mentions having just returned from "the war." That's kind of an interesting hint, that he was a big man in the military and then returns home to lord over his little town. But I absolutely do not want that to get its own movie.

In the last two seasons, as the line between good guys and bad guys blurs, the character of Clem represents the show's evolving stance on demons. He's kind, helpful and even gets a happy ending.

It's inspired by Tom King's "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" graphic novel, which starts with Supergirl celebrating her 21st birthday alone on a planet with a red sun so she can get drunk. She struggles under Superman's shadow in that story, but this movie seems to have turned everything up to 11.
