OK, @mayorbowser.bsky.social just spoke for almost an hour on Trump's order, and was fairly level-headed. She said that Chief Pamela Smith remains in charge of MPD, reiterated that crime levels are down (but she always wants them lower), and that this is happening because D.C. is not a state.

In an almost unprecedented move in D.C.โ€™s 50-year experience with self-governance, President Donald Trump on Monday took control of the Metropolitan Police Department, putting its 3,100 sworn officers under his direct command for the next 30 days. 51st.news/dc-trump-mpd...

Promising Technologies Need a Bigger Push to Cut Manure Emissions in the US Livestock manure contributes over 1% of the United States' total GHG emissions. Promising solutions to curb the potent gas need more support and funding.

New research: our team looked at all the ways to reduce emissions from manure management in the US.

While biogas digesters receive the most funding, other options like solid-liquid separation, acidification, and aeration are more promising & cost-effective.

These emissions are also undercounted.

With plenty of moving testimonials and charming talking heads, Heightened Scrutiny draws damning lines between the โ€œjust asking questionsโ€ opinion pieces published in respected mainstream media publications like The Atlantic and the New York Times and the legal arguments made in our judicial system. The damaging rhetoric in these outlets is directly and immediately echoed by lawyers, judges, and โ€œexpertsโ€ brought into courtโ€”and because of how clicky transphobic stories have historically been, this vicious cycle has recently ramped up. Add in the targeted bigotry of the increasingly radical right, and the legal, cultural, and medical fight for acceptance now waged by trans folks has gotten all the tougher as public awareness has grown.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater.

(It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)

A Food Reckoning Is Coming Our diets are awful for the planet. But we canโ€™t quit food.

2 of every 5 acres of the planet are cropped or grazed.

We lose a soccer field of forest every 6 seconds.

Agricultural sprawl has overrun 30 times more of the global landscape than urban sprawl.

WE ARE EATING THE EARTH.

Death threats. Islamophobic bigotry. Now a sitting Councilmember calling for my deportation.

Enough. This is what Trump and his sycophants have wrought. Itโ€™s an assault on the values of our city and our Constitution. Will Cuomo condemn this or will that upset his MAGA donors?

Defying DeSantis, Florida Pride Marchers Light Up Jacksonville Bridge with Rainbow Organizers demonstrated that they didnโ€™t need state permission for queer visibility.

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride.

So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels.

They opened the drawbridge to block them.

So they marched to a different bridge.

There is one place, however, where Musk, with the help of his minions, achieved his goals. He did indeed shred U.S.A.I.D. Though a rump operation is now operating inside the State Department, the administration says that it has terminated more than 80 percent of U.S.A.I.D. grants. Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children, and will most likely lead to significantly more by the end of the year. That is what Muskโ€™s foray into politics accomplished.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.
