still thinking about the Montana knife maker who said you don't have to worry about tariffs if you buy american. and then three months later, he realized he imports swedish steel and german equipment. and even MiUSA equipment costs $100k more now because of tariffs

I don't think STEM is morally corrupting but you're more likely to learn moral lessons in humanities and social science and there are only so many hours in a day. The person who studies nothing but engineering learns less about morals than the one who studies nothing but history

Hey man, it's ok if it didn't work for you. But I was like, 20, and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
But I get the idea. It reaaaaally bothered me when Holdo wished them "Godspeed" in The Last Jedi.

Yes, but you can fix it!!
If you just cut the show right as they make Galactica's final jump and they look up and see (spoilers) Earth... then you've got yourself a pretty great ending.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

Brad Pitt Is Fooling You
The F1 press tour has been a carefully attuned charm offensive meant to obscure Pittโs alleged violent behavior toward ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
I wrote about how Brad Pitt has effectively albeit transparently used F1: The Movie and its press tour to rehabilitate his image, in order to obscure the violent allegations about abuse toward Angelina Jolie & his current estrangement from his six kids, @vulture.com. www.vulture.com/article/brad...

This week, I learned a LOT of people think "eugenics" narrowly means "murder people who don't look a certain way" rather than "eliminate traits from the human species that you don't like," in the context of an article about using CRISPR to eliminate Downs Syndrome, ADHD, ASD, etc.

This is oligarchy. This is obscene.
While 60% live paycheck to paycheck & kids go hungry, Jeff Bezos, worth $230 billion, goes to Venice on his $500 million yacht for a $20 million wedding & spends $5 million on a ring while his real tax rate is just 1.1%.
End this oligarchy.

โThis umbrella, believe it or not โ and I would never lie to you โ this umbrella is older than Mr. Mamdani. This umbrella has more experience than Mr. Mamdani,โ says Warren Schreiber.
You almost have to appreciate just how beautifully this illustrates the gerontocratic nature of American politics: the Ancient Umbrella is imbued with more experience simply because it existed longer.

This is everywhere.
Every academic institution I know is held together by some exhausted woman in her early 40's who waits until the old white male professors have finished their vague rants and says, "alright, so concretely can I propose the following next steps..."
She makes half their salary.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.
They are in charge.

I turned off Gemini in Gmail and Docs because it just doesnโt work / do anything useful for me.
So why am I being charged more?
