Astronomer, but I would rather be playing (or maybe watching) volleyball. Love teaching astronomy to anyone, anywhere, at anytime, but can mostly be found doing so at Penn State University.

Hundred grand bar - used to be my absolute favorite until they ruined it by making it no longer chocolate.

At halloween, I tried a few of my favorite things from my son's haul, and both were inedible, and I had to spit them out. A reese's was one of them. The good news is, I will only eat local high quality candy now, and it's so expensive, I can't eat as much as I would a reese's.

As long as I'm in "not biting my tongue" today mode -- Anyone seen the Flock cameras that have popped up around campus? I love the fact that I am driving by a license plate reader / facial recognition camera installed by my employer on my way into work every morning.

"... Given that tenure‑line, non-tenure-line and part-time faculty often have different priorities, a single bargaining unit may not represent the varied needs of different faculty groups. Some faculty may feel their interests will be diluted or overridden by majority voting within the union."

"Will all faculty be in the same bargaining unit? And why does that matter?
Yes. Under Pennsylvania’s legal framework for collective bargaining, all faculty categories must be part of the same unit..."

I love how the weekly email from the Provost's office that was started in 2020 to share pandemic-related news that needed to get out quickly now includes the weekly FAQ question and answer about the faculty unionization vote. Very thoughtful of them to share their helpful insight!

Good luck with this effort. I had fun watching IU's football run for the ages, but this was in the back of my mind the whole time, even though I have no connection to IU other than knowing a few alumni and faculty there. I hope your campaign forces some change.

I'm glad that others on here seem to hate that de-aging Dunkin commercial as much as I did.

I get the fun and retro nostalgia about vinyl records, but CDs? Well, if my kid eventually wants them, I still have 400 in a box that has lots of dust on it.

Wow - mine turns 13 in a month, and thankfully this isn't something I've had to figure out just yet. Good luck!

I was in the class of 1994 for these positions in Socorro. As a first gen college student who hadn't traveled a lot, it was my first extended trip west of the Mississippi. I still keep in touch with several of my classmates from that summer. Highly recommend -- please apply!

Finelli’s pizza in Cedar Knolls, NJ in the 70s and 80s. It was just the corner pizza joint in my town and when I was young, we got pizza there a lot on Friday nights. Nothing unique, just the absolute perfect NJ-style pizza.

But I agree with everything you said about it - I think their motto was

I think the son retired not long after his parents because of health problems. It’s a snap pizza now.

It would just be nice if the older folks would mentor younger folks and help them get elected so we could have a deep pool of talented, experienced younger politicians rather than feeling obligated to vote for 80 year olds who should be able to gracefully retire!

We require mechanics, E&M, and QM. They also need 2 upper level PHYS electives, and they can choose from QM2, optics, thermo, subatomic, relativity, and a few others. Students are hearing that some grad schools are using QM2 as a deciding factor in admissions, so more are choosing that now, too.

Getting sent pics of aurora visible in PA and from friends in VA, but clouds rolled in here and we can’t see it. Boooooooooo.

Hello from Central PA, where the consistent 50s and 60s we have had for all of October and into November have one of my azaleas starting to bloom.

It was hard to delete my twitter account the day I did it (I had created it in 2011!), but I have not missed it one bit.

One of my Astro undergrad classes has a significant sci comm piece to it, and I have been talking about this all semester. It is really irresponsible.

Yea - Slapshot is definitely not this genre!

Oh, and not that I'm a hockey fan, but we recently put our family through the original Mighty Ducks. That's definitely the hockey movie of the genre.

Every volleyball fanatic, like me, talks reverently about Side Out. I don't think I ever managed to watch it, though.

I remember our original number I had to memorize somewhere around 1978. My parents changed that number in 1989 when my mom started getting prank calls on that number, and I remember the newer one, too.

It was definitely noticeable to me, too, so it's interesting to just see I wasn't the only one thinking about this. I guess I'm pondering what I want to see from the next coach, and someone community-minded would be nice. I guess we can't be too picky when a lot of them are not great humans, though.

I missed that you said something about this, too. This was definitely on my mind the last few weeks. Did you get the sense (or did you ever hear) that anyone ever tried to advise him to get out of his bubble more?
