We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

When I moved to eastern NC the classic sauce seemed to be more like the brand "George's BBQ Sauce", with apple cider vinegar and tomato paste. It is much more of a sweet-sour vinegar flavor and is reddish-colored. It is slightly thicker liquid, less acrid, more of a dipping sauce.

I think he's hating on the type of vinegar sauce we used growing up in SC: clear, pungent, dominated by white vinegar and black pepper. You apply it *during* the smoking, often with a mop, and only use it sparingly as a dipping sauce.
