i think it is A Choice to highlight robert redfield on a panel after all the bullshit during covid (and well before that with cherry-picking data and other problems) because you feel like you gotta have โ€œboth sidesโ€ represented or whatever

4-panel cartoon of 2 people and a dog:
Panel 1: Person in green shirt looks apprehensively at the dog and asks the person in blue shirt "Does your dog bite?"
Panel 2: Person in blue shirt replies "No, but it can hurt you in other ways."
Panel 3: in an apparent demonstration of how the dog can hurt you without biting, the dog says to the green shirted person: "Just because you can draw a DAG does not mean that the relationships depicted are causal."
Panel 4: the green shirted person is crying while the blue shirted person and dog look on.

Relevant to this soft-glam fascist's comments today, there's a bill in Florida to ban prescribing birth control to minorsโ€”or even giving teens information about itโ€”without parental consent. It's called HB 173
The attacks on contraception are, and have been, in motion

Dorothy Roberts on the intersecting politics of abortion, pregnancy, and family policing - Harvard Law School In the Biddle Lecture, civil rights scholar Dorothy Roberts draws a throughline from the horrors of slavery to the Supreme Courtโ€™s recent abortion ruling.

More critics of how the right to birth control and abortion are under attack could have better race analysis.

Two helpful sources, if unfamiliar: On Dorothy Roberts's work and Young Lords's expansive vision of reproductive rights.

More People Are Having Abortions At Home. Here's Who They Call When They Have Nowhere Else To Turn. Since Roe v. Wade fell, many callers are filled with concern: โ€œIf I go to the emergency room, will they call the police?โ€

I spoke with Dr. April Lockley, medical director of the Miscarriage and Abortion hotline, who has fielded questions from hundreds of people managing their abortions at home.

Since Roe v. Wade fell, many callers are filled with concern: โ€œIf I go to the emergency room, will they call the police?โ€

you donโ€™t need to spend money on new kitchen tools if you take care of the ones youโ€™ve got with a little TLC and elbow grease (or in this case, mineral oil and conditioner)

A bottle of mineral oil sits on top of a cutting board in dire need of maintenance (i.e., oiling and conditioning)

put this on IG but might be useful here too: if you havenโ€™t done it in a minute, today is a good day to oil and condition your cutting boards and sharpen your knives

(dull knives are way more dangerous than sharp knives! and a conditioned cutting board is important for good hygiene and maintenance)

Thereโ€™s no Black Chicago media presence in Springfield โ€” time to change that โ€ข The TRiiBE The TRiiBE took its talents down to Springfield, IL this week. Let me tell you why.

A morning read โ€” TRIIBE EIC Tiffany Walden unpacks why they covered Springfield this week.

โ€œPritzker going against the corporate head tax was not progressive. Yet, his stance wasnโ€™t really publicly critiqued. So, we thought, where else is he not being progressive?โ€

Survey length is both a validity issue, because long surveys lead to bad results, and an ethical issue, because long surveys are an unnecessary and unacceptable burden on the participants who volunteer to help our research.

We've got a small pot of money for a project turning a few science-driven stories about future pandemic into very short (1 paragraph) narratives. If you could hear from any fiction person - in any medium: novels, comics, TTRPGs - who would you want to read a story about the next pandemic from?

Despite relentless attacks, union representation hit a 16-year high in 2025. Nearly half a million more workers are covered by a union contract. Even as the Trump administration tried to weaken our rights, we kept organizing and building power.

i think jesse jackson was one of the most important american political figures of the post-war era and i think that his 1984 and 1988 campaigns for the democratic nomination still have a great deal to teach about forging a path to a more egalitarian world. RIP.
