In a seminary course in the mid-90s called “Images of Jesus” I presented on Tom Jones from the movie (and of course book) as an image of resistance and solidarity that Jesus embodied. I showed the scene between Jones and his mom near the end of “Wherever there’s a cop beating’ a guy…” I got an A+

Still thinking of the time at a previous church, when a council chair told me that my job as a pastor was to “Sit down. Shut up. And do what your told.” And we wonder why people aren’t seeking the Divine from local congregations.

As a pastor and even more as a Canadian, I don’t want Sean Feucht bringing his MAGA fascist bullshit to infect this country with hate. But also, we need to talk about the name “Burn Canada” and why he refers to Canadians as “enemies of God.” Christofascism needs to be eradicated.

The idea that Christianity is under attack in Canada’s laughable. We only have to look as far as Christmas Day and Good Friday being national statutory holidays to see how coddled Canadian Christianity has been.

I preached and lead worship with the good folks at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hamilton, ON this morning. In my 20s I must’ve walked past this church 1000 times while changing buses in Hamilton. A wonderful worship space and welcoming community.

And no I won’t be endorsing anyone from the pulpit.

The people who lost children and other loved ones in the Texas floods are owed honest answers from officials. They should be told why flash flood warnings issued hours earlier were not conveyed to people in the path of the water. They don’t need more prayers from politicians. They need answers.
