The extravagant investment in data centres shows that governments and businesses can absolutely invest in housing, but evidently only for Generative AI.

No Nicola, call the dogs off does NOT originate in Shakespeare. Regardless, some of Shakespeare just shouldn’t be used now In political discourse. I give you β€œan old black ram is tupping your white eweβ€œ (Othello) - Shakespeare isn’t a get out of jail free card for slurs and insults.

I think also: well actually yes, the world does owe you a living. That’s what a society is. We owe each other a living. From the cradle to the grave. From each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Are we supposed to leave each other to die in the streets? That’s madness.

I preferred it when Prime Ministers believed things like every person deserved β€œsomeone to love, somewhere to live, something to do, and something to hope for”, and acted on those beliefs.

Today's ridiculous announcement from the National Party penalizing young people and their families had me thinking of this meme again

My thoughts exactly! Isn’t bespoke a good thing? Like a really sharp suit that fits perfectly, or a house designed for the needs of all who live in it.

Buried in the detail about reducing earthquake strengthening is the removal of requirements for disabled access and fire safety. You know who does that? Sociopaths.

Oh that hits the nail very precisely on the head - ouch. So very true.

Graph of public pension costs as % of GDP for OECD countries in 2021 (latest data). NZ is lower quartile at around 5.1%. OECD average is 7.8%. Plenty of Euro countries are around 10% or above.

Looks like a good time in the news cycle to tackle three big myths 🧡
❌ NZ pension costs are an unsustainable burden ❌
Seriously, no, for lots of reasons.
1. Our current Govt spending on pensions is low compared to most other advanced economies. And... [1/n]

I have approximately zero following on this app, sharing in the hopes it can get in front of the right person. A man I went to college with’s wife was kidnapped by ICE at a green card hearing, and he’s trying to find a reporter who will speak to him about the situation

I met a lady at an event yesterday and we got to talking about Jacinda and I said I would find it hard to meet her without literally crying with gratitude over COVID and this lady agreed, we had a great chat about how much we miss having her as PM

I just loved the scene with Pa Kent, for me it really grounded why Clark was such a good person, he is super but raised by good hearted people who love him and taught him to be good

Your photos are just wonderful. I love kingfishers, I had the treat of seeing one on a powerline outside my house last week.

Same fox terrier jumping up towards the camera, still not entirely I. Frame because she is moving so fast, she is brown and white and super beautiful from what bits of her are captured in this unsuccessful photo

Same lovely girl standing on rear legs smiling at the camera but still not entirely in frame, this time her forehead and ears are chopped off - the grass is green, it is a lovely day, she is just moving too fast to be properly photographed for the record !

Animal photography has to be the hardest. At least you can immediately see on your phone rather than sending the film off for a week only to find that bits are chopped off!

Palestine is not Hamas any more than Ireland is the IRA or Aotearoa is ACT

Worst NZ govt ever. Too cowardly and craven to recognise Palestine whilst it's very existence is being threatened by genocide.

Shameful.

We have a Prime Minister who's not interested in anything beyond self-gratification, a DPM with less than 10% of the vote, a finance minister who can't add up, and a foreign minister on the wrong side of the most significant international crisis of this century so far.

Fuck this govt of parasites.
