There's no way that someone vomiting 30 times a day in work would be ignored in the way that pregnant women with HG are. This is an issue of equality and maternal safety as well as putting an avoidable burden on the NHS. I'll be meeting with ministers soon. @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social 6/6

Pregnancy Sickness Support | UK Charity

Over 35,000 women were hospitalised with HG in 2023/24 according to Pregnancy Sickness Support with up to 2,000 pregnancies being terminated due to inadequate care. Yet, the govt is not including HG in its Maternal Safety Review - I am pressing them to change this absurd decision. 5/6

There is an NHS-approved drug available, called Xonvea, but it is not provided everywhere leading to a postcode lottery for women. I recently asked the Prime Minister directly to end this scandal. You can watch it here: x.com/JamesMacClea... 4/6

Vomiting 20-30 times a day or more leads to dehydration, weight loss, and mental health impacts. Women are expected to work and function normally in society while dealing with this. Sufferers experience suicidal ideation and often lasting mental health issues. 3/6

Alongside some high profile cases like the Princess of Wales, I saw my own partner suffer with it when pregnant with both our kids. So many people (including doctors and midwives) dismissed it as something she should just cope with, but it is more serious. 2/6

Kate knows extreme morning sickness is hell. Why’s help so hard to find? Doctors are reluctant to prescribe Xonvea, the drug for hyperemesis gravidarum, even though it’s so debilitating that some women consider abortion or suicide

Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is extreme pregnancy sickness. It is hugely debilitating and misunderstood. My partner and I spoke about our own experience following my question on it to the Prime minister.

It is time for change. 🧡1/6

The science is clear, and the government must listen. The Liberal Democrats oppose new oil fields like Rosebank and Jackdaw. We now need real investment in renewables!

Israel launches first major ground and air attack on central Gaza city Deir al-Balah Tens of thousands of people were warned to flee the city, where many displaced Palestinians have been sheltering and it's thought some Israeli hostages are held.

Condemnation isn't enough. Children are starving to death and the Israeli govt presses on. Calls for a ceasefire are just ignored.

The UK and our allies must act now. Recognise Palestine and sanction Netanyahu for a start.

So many young people have lost opportunities they never chose to give up.

A proper youth mobility scheme can put that right - restoring the freedom to study, travel and thrive across Europe.

Labour must show ambition – not water things down to appease Nigel Farage.

It's utterly unconscionable for the Israeli Defence Force simply to blame a "technical error" for killing Gazan children waiting for water. The UK Government must insist on accountability within the Israeli military and Government and an end to a culture of impunity.

As a proud dad of two, I’m deeply concerned by the early years staffing crisis.

At PMQs I asked the Deputy PM what her government is doing – sadly, the answer was clear: there is no plan.

Our children deserve better.

As a UK MP I condemn the jailing of my friend Giorgi Vashadze. I was due to meet him next week.
I’ll be writing to the Foreign Secretary demanding immediate action.
All political prisoners in Georgia must be released – the UK must sanction Ivanishvili and his corrupt govt now.

The imprisonment of Georgian opposition leaders Khazaradze & Japaridze is a blatant political persecution by Georgia's Georgian Dream govt.

The UK must act urgently: targeted sanctions, reject this regime, and call for new democratic elections.

Chinese mega-embassy to be approved within weeks Labour’s Angela Rayner is expected to rubberstamp the proposal, but opponents who say it creates a security risk are promising a legal fight

This is not a technical planning issue, it is a matter of national security. Angela Rayner must refuse permission for a Chinese super-embassy sitting above sensitive UK data networks from which to intimidate and detain pro-democracy campaigners in the UK.

I spoke on ITV Meridian’s Last Word about the government’s cruel cuts to PIP.

These β€˜tough choices’ always hit those already struggling.

After months of pushing, we’re finally seeing movement.

Today, the EU is set to adopt a mandate to negotiate a Youth Mobility Scheme with the UK.

This didn’t happen by accident. It’s pressure from those of us who refuse to accept young people being cut off from opportunity.

Letter from Calum Miller MP to The Right Honourable David Lammy MP, dated 23 June 2025

Dear David,

I know that you, like me, will be gravely concerned at the new and major escalation of conflict in the Middle East, following Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities overnight and reports that an Iranian retaliation is now underway.

People across the UK and the world will no doubt be fearing the break-out of widespread regional conflict in the Middle East.

The immediate priority must be to secure a de-escalation of the current crisis. The UK Government should be urging both Israel and Iran to hold back from retaliatory actions against one another, recognising that this will only lead to further destabilisation and bloodshed.

Can you reassure me, therefore, that the Government is engaging with leaders in both Israel and Iran to ensure this crisis does not spiral into what could otherwise become a devastating full-scale war?

Iran’s nuclear ambitions continue to pose a grave threat to both regional security and wider global stability. It’s clear that the regime’s nuclear programme - which also poses a unique and existential threat to the state of Israel - must be contained.

It is vital, though, that containment is achieved through robust diplomacy and the application of economic pressure, rather than through military action - which risks generating the very regional instability that containment aims to prevent.

Can you reassure me that UK assets and personnel are not being deployed in this conflict but that, instead, all our diplomatic efforts are focused on de-escalation?

Can you reassure me that UK assets and personnel are not being deployed in this conflict but that, instead, all our diplomatic efforts are focused on de-escalation?

It’s clear that only a return to multilateral diplomacy can help secure a permanent lock on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. This week’s G7 Summit offers an important opportunity to reaffirm that principle.

Can you confirm, therefore, whether the Prime Minister will endeavour to work with other leaders at the Summit to create a united coalition of democratic nations - including the United States - committed to collective negotiations with Iran to secure guarantees on its nuclear non-proliferation?

Iran remains the world’s biggest exporter of terrorism - funding and supporting the activities of terror groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. This support has been directed under the auspices of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This situation remains utterly intolerable.

The Liberal Democrats have consistently called for the IRGC to be proscribed, given its direct funding for groups like Hamas which are already proscribed in the UK. It’s a step which has also been recommended by Parliament’s cross-party Foreign Affairs Select Committee

Yet despite these calls, both the previous Conservative Government and this Labour administration have failed to take this vital step.

Will the Government finally accept the case for the IRGC’s proscription and implement it - thus recognising that organisation’s role as a major contributor to regional destabilisation and international terrorism?

This would also send the clearest signal possible to the Iranian regime that their continued funding of terrorist activities will not be tolerated.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Calum Miller MP
Liberal Democrats Foreign Affairs Spokesperson
