Thing with all the soft language of dignity and respect and compromise being used to describe loss of human rights, persecution, and segregation, is that it immediately frames any opposition to it as unreasonable and aggressive

Any organisation that dares to keep the status quo of the last 20 years because, say, nothing bad has happened is apparently going to be at risk of being sued

What's notable, I think, is that while the cis ally gives us vague generalities about solidarity the transphobe is making concrete proposals about how to do transphobia most effectively.

This whole thread is not just heartbreaking but also demonstrates extremely plainly why the Supreme Court's decision was one of the worst rulings of all time, even in just a strictly legal and technical sense with no regard towards the morality of it

I think part of this “dont call em fascist nah mate theyre not really fascists” is wanting to tell yourself that there isnt a major mainstream wave of fascism normalised in your country

I do not have the biological profile of a cis woman nor a cis man. I am trans and my trans biology needs to be recognised by the health service for the benefit of my safety.

But for ideological reasons the government have pushed the NHS to prioritise my anatomy as an infant to my anatomy as a adult

The most important thing to remember through all of this is that these policies are overwhelming introduced as a means to keep track of adults, not to protect kids. They do not give a flying fuck about the wellbeing of children. If they did, they wouldn't be letting so many of them live in poverty.

My guess is that if enough people demonstrate their authoritarianism is stupid and unworkable, kids will also figure out that it’s stupid and unworkable, so we all have to pretend this is in any way a good idea?

Aside from the frothing racism of these people, what is really grim about this is the idea that government are powerless to change culture. If your constituents think these things *they are wrong* and you need to explain why. It's not actually your job as an MP to rubber stamp fascism.

A big part of the GC movement is not just pushing for transphobia to be allowed, but for it to be mandatory. They have to present disagreeing with them as unacceptable if they want to achieve that — it’s the same logic as Boyne used to compare pro-trans cis women to the wives in The Handmaid’s Tale.

I mean, if I was defending my inclusion in an award tailored for minority groups, I probably wouldn't begin by saying we should be allowed to discriminate against minority groups.

The one that gets me is the “lesser of two evils” framing. That only works if the option you’re trying to promote actually is substantially less evil, but the difference in levels of racist, transphobic fascism is too negligible.

Seeing the country become more and more hostile to trans people should make pride events feel like a reprieve but attending this one feels a bit like an obligation, ngl

I know I should be supporting local pride but it doesn’t have any performers who aren’t white drag queens, won’t let under 18s attend without an adult, and (if what I’ve heard is correct) only pays performers who are famous enough while expecting the others to do it for free 🙃

Also you have fundamentally misunderstood how any kind of word detection algorithm works if you think they can detect “kill” but not “unalive”. In fact, there’s going to be MORE false positives for “kill” than there would be for “unalive”, making the latter easier to detect.

I’ll go further and say if you write or say “unalive” when seriously discussing death, I think you are a black hole of a person who has TikTok clout brain and has nothing of value to say

People have told me to be grateful we have a Labour government in the UK and not either Tories or Reform, but Labour have enabled and enacted more anti-trans policies and sent more weapons to Israel in a year than the Tories did in 4. Labour ARE far right.

It's an inherently bad idea to put age restrictions on arbitrary sections of the internet, but if they insist on doing it, putting the onus on individual websites to verify the ages of every UK-based visitor is clearly completely unworkable.

Fascism at home, genocide abroad, and yet most daily mundanities continue unhindered.

It took me moving to an entirely different area and a GP practice who cared to get the merge sorted, but for the years I was in one area (and the two GP practices I went to there) I just got shrugs and “can’t do anything about it now”. I suspect others have also had that.
