Trump's a huge liar and gets zero credit for honesty, but, as a way of understanding his actions, this seems true. A lot of his decisions (e.g., gutting FEMA, turning off weather satellites, etc) are hard to understand unless Trump sees the whole federal gov't as his personal funds.

I really hope Democrats are keeping a list of all of these things to investigate once they retake the house.

I think this is a very good take on what Trump voters outside the MAGA base were expecting. And I think the current results are generally what most Harris voters expected a Trump Administration would be like.

Incidentally, the coup in which Trump literally tried to overthrow the government should have been the issue that stuck with him. The media deciding to call it "January 6th" rather than "The Trump Insurrection" was such a huge mistake.

It took forever but we finally found the scandal that Trump can't move past. Democrats and non-Trump media can't let this issue die out over the summer. They have to continuously keep bringing up the Trump-Epstein relationship.

This is a really good thread. When the people running a country truly believe that the laws don't apply to them, then the laws lose their meaning and society is only held together by brute force.

Imagine if Democrats had barely won control of the House and the deaths of three of their members had caused the majority to flip. It would be a huge national story. But it shouldn't take something like that for people to come to terms with the issue.

I absolutely agree with this. Trump is doing real harm to the country in many different ways. The best course of action for Democrats is to publicly oppose those things, not to reflect on their personal flaws.

This is especially true given that we saw in 2024 just how incredibly short most voters' memories are. By 2028, most people aren't going to remember anything about the Biden presidency.

It's ironic that conservatives led the push for guns everywhere and for stand your ground law protections, and yet those two things make it more likely and quite arguably legal, for someone to shoot masked people trying to grab someone while claiming to be an ICE agent.
