What and how do you ask?
How do you avoid showing your bias?

My experience with this is, whenever you ask a user if they'd like a feature. They always say yes.
Even unable to choose between 2 options.

The character design is really nice. The tail can really help with animation and movement to help show motion.

I meant to say it could add more motion, not smoother. More energy in the swing.

for me, it's mostly about signal vs noise.
Anything that moves or flickers I avoid.
If an element already reads clearly, extra motion (like animated hatching) tends to fight attention.
Simple cues- brief color shifts, flashes, or fades usually communicate state changes with less cognitive load.

I would strongly recommend against this. IMO, I would switch that to maybe a slowly flashing-fading, red or white.

I've never made an RTS, but I've played loads of them, and I know design & UX.
But also, play test it both ways.

Making hand drawn top-down perspective games is insane.

I've drawn, animated, painted, and shaded my 12 frames for the run cycle of Jack, my main character.

Now, "only" got to do that 4 more times (+3 shades).

then:
-every attack x 8
- idle x 8
- death x 8
- qin
- etc....
