A compilation of 12 photos of my embroidery pieces. Some are stitched words or line drawings in backstitch. Some are thread paintings.

Ex There is one rectangular redwork piece in a frame, which is a stitched poem entitled β€˜redwork’ and one piece that is a simple house design stitched on a mini canvas. The other ten are all in circular embroidery hoops.

There are positive messages in the pieces with words. For example, the first piece in the top left, an embroidery piece in a hoop, with freehand words stitched in red. In the centre is a heart, around which is the phrase β€˜create & chat’. All the words begin with the letter C. There are some flowers stitched with daisy chain stitch, and heart motifs. The stitched words are: contentment, conversation, calm, cherish, cozy, cheer, connect, craft, companions, comfortable.

The bottom left piece is an embroidery β€˜thread painting’ in an orange hoop. The scene is a pond in the woods. A tiny figure in the centre stands on a hillock just beyond the water. There are patches of ground stitched in orange and russet, where there is a carpet of fallen larch tree needles.

The last piece, at the bottom right, is an unfinished embroidery in a detailed thread painting style, of a woodland scene, framed in a green embroidery hoop. The large central tree is growing on rock. In the foreground, the purples in the rock strata have been accentuated.

Bluesky is an "echo chamber" but Twitter is some kind of what, salon? An egalitarian agora where ideas are respectfully exchanged?

Twitter is a smoking Cybertruck with a greasy dude reeking of Axe Body Spray offering Circus Peanuts out of the back seat. I have no interest in getting into that ride.

Two fabric pieces in the shape of ginkgo leaves, in two shades of green. The dark green leaf has the words resilience and strength embroidered on it. The bright green leaf has the words hope and endurance embroidered in it.

A selection of textile pieces laid out on a bright green background as part of a banner work in progress, including a cross stitch piece that reads β€˜Brain Health Breakthrough’ circled by crocheted hands that are linked together. There are crochet sunflowers and a heart, and two pink Suffolk puffs in the shape of hearts.

My personal embroidery has taken a bit of a backseat as I’m working on a community textile project with our #LongCovidSupport group at #BrainHealthBreakthroughCIC

I have it very mildly. I feel a bit panicky and embarrassed when it happens. It’s exhausting to desperately try and mask it (that pun was unintended πŸ˜‚ but I like it). I am neurodivergent (AuDHD)

But surely this is the real reality? And what we humans tend to call reality is some weird fantasy world we created amongst ourselves?

Harriet McBryde Johnson: disabled people take conditions that people would never ask for and make beautiful, thriving lives out of them. We have to remind ourselves that there will always be disabled people living thriving lives. There will always be moments of beauty and joy.

Oscar Wilde’s prison door on display at an exhibition. It is a dirty yellow, heavy door with rivets, and multiple locks and bolts.

The artist statement beside it reads, β€˜In 1895 Oscar Wilde was imprisoned with hard labour on the charge of gross indecency. Behind this cell door Wilde wrote De Profundis as a letter to his lover on his allocated four sheets of paper per day. He died destitute three years after release at the age of 46.’

This is Oscar Wilde’s prison door which I saw at Queer Britain in London a couple of years ago. It’s titled β€˜We Who Live in Prison’. I’ve written out the artist statement in the alt text. Seeing it in person was powerfully poignant.
