Breefolk certainly thought of Aragorn and the rangers as "undesirables" who didn't belong in Bree: "ranger" was *not* a compliment. Seems like if you reject the stranger you might reject angels (or your future King) unawares.

Rolling Stone excerpt about Montana’s ballot initiative to combat Citizens United

This is the best political news I’ve seen in a very long time β€” so please pass it onπŸ‘‡

Each state can limit Citizens United in their own state & they don’t have to wait for other states to do it.

I always wondered why France had so many heists but if you can still just put a ladder up to a window on the Louvre in the year 2025 and get away with a big bag full of priceless jewels I guess that solves the mystery

The phrase "trans activist" is goofy because like 95% of the time it's used it refers to a trans person simply existing.

Media, pointing at a woman buying a coffee: behold, a trans activist.

Woman: buying coffee is not activism stop being so fucking weird

Media: trans activist criticizes media

Second "No Kings Day" protests likely the largest single-day political demonstration since 1970, with 4.2-7.6 million participants Here are the initial results from our crowdsourced crowd-counting estimates

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

Evil, that is, has every advantage but oneβ€”it is inferior in imagination. Good can imagine the possibility of becoming evil-hence the refusal of Gandalf and Aragorn to use the Ring-but Evil, defiantly chosen, can no longer imagine anything but itself. Sauron cannot imagine any motives except lust for domination and fear so that, when he has learned that his enemies have the Ring, the thought that they might try to destroy it never enters his head, and his eye is kept toward Gondor and away from Mordor and the Mount of Doom.

I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into scist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town.
Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming.
Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance.

Cooooool. Found out the husband of a family member I already choose not to speak to for several reasons joined ICE.

I reminded my parents that they can do what they want, but I don't associate with the getstopo, especially with my greater queer/immigrant/poc chosen family.

do you believe in magic? more women, more witchcraft

New!

The prohibition against WiTCHCRAFT in the Bible, what it likely meant in its original context --

& how the Rabbis understood it, in both their own relationship to magic --

& what they saw of their wives, sisters, etc.

"most women are familiar with witchcraft."

151. The Supreme Court's (Alien Enemies Act) Patience is Wearing Thin A very quick breakdown of Friday afternoon's quietly significant ruling slapping down the lower courts in the Northern District of Texas Alien Enemies Act litigationβ€”and what it means going forward.

For "One First," I took a deeper dive into Friday afternoon's *very* significant #SCOTUS Alien Enemies Act rulingβ€”including why it effectively freezes AEA removals for the foreseeable future and its (much) broader potential impact on *all* attempts to bring nationwide challenges to Trump policies:

Family, it has been a really bad few months of sales for trans authors. I know there are a lot of reasons for this (the economy is in the toilet, everything costs more, Amazon boycotts, etc), but trans stories still deserve to be read, and trans authors still deserve to be supported.

Gamechanger for more than just obesity
First developed to help lower blood sugar levels as a diabetes treatment, it was quickly apparent that Novo Nordisk’s drug semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy jabs) has a dramatic effect on weight. The drug works by mimicking a hormone, GLP-1, which is released in the gut when we eat and acts on receptors around the body, including the brain.

Guardian writers campaigned against puberty-blockers because they were prescribed "off label".

Now the Guardian is celebrating Ozempic, a drug being used off label for obesity.

The difference...?

Puberty-blockers have been used for trans kids for 30+ years, Ozempic for obesity only for 4 years.
