The gards are a big part of the problem of road-safety. And yet they're supposed to be one of the groups leading awareness campaigns. It's a sick joke.

Also, let's not forget that a number of years ago the CSO publically stated that they don't trust the stats from the gards wrt road injuries!!

Old railway route to be left disused for another decade as council shelves greenway after โ‚ฌ1.6m spent on planning Sligo County Council has paused work on the planned Sligo Greenway project, claiming that it cannot provide a greenway alongside the disused railway trackbed between Bellaghy/Charlestown on the Mayโ€ฆ

A lot of what's happening is farmers extending their buildings/boundaries illegally onto the Irish Rail owned land over the years. Irish Rail need to re-assert their ownership of ALL existing lands that ARE owned by the taxpayer not these cute hoor farmers. irishcycle.com/2025/12/01/o...

Thanks! This is probably a bit more invasive on the kinsale road, but tempted to hire the edger and do it.

Asking for a friend ๐Ÿ˜ (#speirgorm)

A cycle they use has become so narrow through grass growth it's unusable.

Anything stopping them edging and removing the grass growth?

Cork City council have ignored repeated tickets they've logged

All the hi-vis in the world isn't keeping me safe from people speeding, people on their phones and people not paying attention, red light breaking while they're driving.

Do better lads

So this driver was speeding, went over to the other side of the road, killed a person, yet the judge said "Her culpability in relation to dangerous driving is on the lower side", and suspended her sentence...

... but remember, where your hi-viz and it'll be grand ๐Ÿคฌ

What a load of victim-blaming nonsense.

No amount of high-viz clothing can protect you from drivers like this: www.rte.ie/news/2025/11...

27.11.2025 08:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 34    ๐Ÿ” 11    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 6    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

I wear a high viz vest and insist that my children wear them if on their bikes. I am not a road safety authority. Your messaging and action need to be on the sources of road danger, not the victims of it.

You are fiddling while the road burns.

27.11.2025 08:50 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Absolutely none of which matters when motorists speed, play on their phones, drive drunk/drugged/tired, or simply believe they own the road.

My first email this morning is from a resident about motorists speeding through pedestrian lights near homes, schools, a church and a library.

It's constant.

27.11.2025 09:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 58    ๐Ÿ” 16    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 6    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It's deffo important to be visible but I'm really looking forward to the bigger and more important campaign aimed at getting drivers to slow down and be vigilant. Caution is required when driving and I see very little of it. People drive as if nothing unexpected will ever happen.

27.11.2025 09:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 16    ๐Ÿ” 5    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

My very expensive hi-viz clothing and bright orange bike is not going to take phones out of drivers hands and make them pay attention to the road.

27.11.2025 11:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 10    ๐Ÿ” 6    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

How much high vis should we wear to counteract drivers using their phones while driving?

27.11.2025 12:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 10    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

At every single set of lights in this country drivers sit staring at their phones, accelerating ahead without even looking up, and the Gards are still pushing the idea that pedestrians and cyclists can protect themselves at all from this dangerous driving.
Dangerous driving they refuse to punish.

27.11.2025 13:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 35    ๐Ÿ” 8    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I know far too many people who have been knocked off their bikes, and not once has it happened because of poor visibility or because they were not lit up enough. In each case, it was the fault of dangerous driving and/or dangerous infrastructure.

When asked how people like to travel, workshop participants cut car use by half: from 37% to 19% while bus use tripled. A great insight from the recent co-creation workshop on how conversations can shape smarter, greener mobility ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช @cyclingincork.bsky.social @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social

Yeah - I know people in West Cork and North Cork who are seeing connectivity between towns and villages that they just didn't have before - older people in particular - able to hop on a bus, do a bit of shopping, maybe stop off for a drink or a cup of tea and back home again - Greens got no credit!

New Local Link rural bus link from North Cork to Kerry Six buses a day - seven days a week

I'm a bit of a nerd about this - but it's hard to quantify just how popular Local Link buses have been in 'rural Ireland' - new one will link villages from Cork to Kerry that haven't had a bus service since the 1960s... www.corkbeo.ie/news/local-n...

Car traffic into Galway City Centre increased in 2024, public transport grew faster, while active travel use wasย down Between 2023 and 2024, the number of cars entering Galway City Centre increased by 3% but the modal share of people travelling by car is down -- this is thanks to stronger growth in bus and rail passengers, up by 25% and 6%. That's according to a traffic count conducted by the National Transport Authority and Galway City Council, which took place last November for the second time, meaning there is now the first set of figures to compare.
