also, making transportation safer for everyone means making transportation by car slower and more deliberate. most car drivers do so because it’s the quickest, most convenient way. making it take longer and generally be slower is antithetical to the purpose of driving.

i commute by bicycle. more robust, evolving infrastructure is definitely in order. one reason why it devolves into bikes v. cars is because bike lanes necessarily cut into either transit lanes or parking lanes for cars. they have to cede access to other modes.

just spitballing here, but if we understand and can model the conditions correlated with crime that well, couldn’t we just address those instead?

this is obvious because exactly that has been effective in places like baltimore. investing in the community — in people — reduces crime.

white supremacy is always on time in america. democrats would rather blame black men than spend any introspection on the nature of their policies and messaging. NYT would rather cede the gym to right wing white “protector” fetishists than agree that maybe the DNC is wrong about something.

i still lived in michigan and was just starting up a business i divested myself from 5 years ago. my son, now entering high school, was a toddler, and my younger on hadn’t been born. it’s so old it’s like another life.

as a cis-hetero white guy, i literally never had to worry about my survival within the political system. with a trans kid, i’ve had to learn from black and gay folks about survival and ambivalence about otherwise “good” candidates. i won’t fault anyone for being truthful about their own survival.

that hits hard. i was at my first job out of college, and we had one of these in the office.
