Opinion | Charlie Kirk Didn’t Shy Away From Who He Was. We Shouldn’t Either.
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com
“We can mourn Charlie Kirk. We can send prayers to his friends and family,” writes our columnist Jamelle Bouie. “We can — and should — do all of this and more without pretending he was something, as a public figure, that he was not.”

it really is astonishing how quickly it goes from “civil war” and “blood in the streets” to “wow guys it’s just a sad tragedy” when it becomes inconvenient

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

People protest cuts to science in the US
The latest mass firings in critical US health services continued the attacks on science and health that have quickly become a signature of the new presidency.
These cuts are short sighted, cruel, and ignorant, writes @choo.bsky.social

To the world:
We are fighting back. Our movement has been silenced by the media here—but we are not backing down. This is what our streets looked like across multiple cities. Tomorrow, there will be more of us! Raise a glass to freedom.

Trump’s initial orders reverse Biden on health care costs, protections from discrimination
Trump's executive orders took aim at Biden's priorities, from drug pricing to gender discrimination.
Trump has rescinded Biden’s Executive Order 14087, “Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans,” which included things like lowering state Medicaid costs for the most expensive therapeutics, reducing Medicare payments for proven drugs, and creating a flat, $2 Medicare copay for generic drugs

But seriously: one of the best ways I learned to improve resuscitation team performance in the ER was to highlight what was good - specifically, directly draw attention to what was great. Then there would be more and more good.
Attention to the good is a powerful force.
