We hope the good people of #SanFrancisco will forgive us for adapting a song about their city in 1967 to address the shocking and tragic events in #Minnesota in recent weeks. This is dedicated to Renรฉe Good and Alex Pretti, and in solidarity. Our version is called "Minnesota" โค๏ธ

Nobody deserves a Nobel peace prize more than the people of Minnesota and Minneapolis. In freezing, bitter, hideous weather that would wipe out most of us in 10 minutes, theyโ€™re still out there, marching their hearts out

Winterwatch - 1963: The Big Freeze Chris Packham introduces a classic documentary from the BBC's archive, which takes a look at the worst winter of the 20th century in 1963.

This extraordinary film leaves iPlayer in the early hours of the morning tonight.

It's worth watching. I must say I can't shake the eerie feeling that I'm looking at an AMOC-collapsed future, not the past...

Annotating the Judgeโ€™s Decision in the Case of Liam Conejo Ramos, a 5-Year-Old Detained by ICE (Gift Article) Our critic annotates the barbed wordplay of a decision challenging the Trump administrationโ€™s theory of executive power.

Hereโ€™s a useful reminder of what our federal courts SHOULD be doing to uphold our constitutional traditions:

There's a point, well below a billion dollars, where the amount of money you have lets you rid yourself of anyone who can be a check on your worst impulses, and replace them with people who tell you those worst impulses are somehow valorous. Rare is the billionaire with someone to tell them "no."

Do tune in to Parliament now if you need a reminder of how little the Tories care about poor children. Looks like there is actually a Reform speaker here too, come to justify plunging kids into poverty to cut the price of beer a bit.

On the broader point made by the PMโ€™s spokesperson here- about govt wanting reform to Lordsโ€™ procedures- Iโ€™m unclear whether they mean they want to reform the system so titles donโ€™t require legislation to be removed; or whether they think processes for expulsion from House need change; or both

What the BBCโ€™s diversity review reveals about modern Britain Representation - how much a group is present - can be captured in data, but portrayal - how groups are depicted - is qualitative and subjective

An insightful thematic review of how to portray modern Britain to ourselves shows how the BBC could rise above the crossfire of culture wars & tokenistic tick-box diversity when trad elites check their privileges more than they share power. My Eastern Eye column

Huge day in the Commons today in the progress towards eliminating child poverty.

Our Labour government's bill to lift the 2-child cap on benefits is getting it's Second Reading, which will lift 450,000 children out of poverty.

Havenโ€™t got a speech to give, gave it in the Budget debate

Going to spend some time responding the bullshit of oppo MPs who either donโ€™t care about child poverty or wish there was another way than money to make kids and families less poor

An interesting development. Canโ€™t be replicated in Uk of course because we donโ€™t have a directly-elected president, but itโ€™s time for the centre-right Tories to come off the fence and condemn their Partyโ€™s slide towards Faragist policies.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but in my world a manifesto is the vision a party puts before the country, it's literally what they hope to achieve in a term in office. Labour has delivered or has in progres 70 manifesto pledges in under 2 years. Why is the not enough and no whataboutary please.
