I moved from synology to TrueNAS, on a second hand mini server with an old xeon with 16GB
Power consomption can be higher but it feels way more responsive, does receive software updates and have more software options.
Not user friendly as the synology but still manageable.
Works fine on old PC too.

IIRC it was shipped with PC-133, but I haven’t mess with my eMac in 20 years… so could be bad memory (no pun intended).

But I had an unholy 256+512MB configuration so anyway I gonna max them both to 1GB.

Just need to check if it had enough space to put an IDE/SATA adapter and go SSD on them too.

I’ll look into it, but seems the original 700MHz is not a good candidate… 😞

This is the Misfortune Cookie attack.

Important to note AllegroSoft did patch the vulnerability years before it was discovered in 2014.
But many manufacturer didn’t bother updating the RomPager version in their firmware in years.

Not exactly IoT but a DSLAM, possible denial of service by just sending a bad cookie or a long enough password on the admin page.

To people not knowing what a DSLAM is: imagine the thing that gave you internet could die with an attacker pressing F5 on his browser every 2 min. It’s bad.

Fun fact: les CD d’install OEM genre DELL c’est le feu pour réinstaller l’OS sur une machine de la marque, ça embarque souvent un paquet de driver qui évitent des galères d’installation.

Chez Apple idem surtout sur les dernières machines en 9.x, notamment certains iBook.

J’ai retrouvé un autre CD oublié dans un lecteur, un autre XP SP2 OEM DELL.
Je savais même pas que j’avais ce CD et donc que je l’avais égaré. JPP.

Toujours aucune trace des 3 autres évidement.

PS: Faut pas laisser un CD dans un lecteur c’est un coup à le retrouver collé au spindle.

Le jour où sort un émulateur de lecteur CD par le réseau qui fait du SCSI/IDE/SATA je numérise tout et fini les CD égarés.

Et oui y’a des émulateurs via carte SD mais pour charger des gigas d’isos c’est pas pratique.

Solution temporaire, me faire des copies que je pourrais perdre. LOL.

J’ai un don. J’ai perdu 4 cd importants.
En réfléchissant à l’endroit où je n’aurais pas pu le ranger j’ai retrouvé celui qui m’intéresse le moins: Windows XP SP2.
Il me reste toujours à retrouver deux copies de Mac OS 9.1 et un cd d’utilitaires Norton.
Bref…
