Yeah! I think that would work well as a replacement for Ripley’s dream sequence at the start of the film. Open the film with Newt’s dream, then cut to black for a beat, then fade in to the drifting shuttle as the film normally opens. Tease the audience with both a “new” planet and a new character. 😎

The release notes for 1.08.5 specifically call out that AppleTalk multiplayer is fixed. I don’t have 1.08.2 but 1.08.3 and 1.08.4 both have broken multiplayer so my hopes are not high.

Damn. Was hoping I could show off two Pippins with a multiplayer game of Quake going, but it turns out that of the two versions of Quake for Mac with working AppleTalk multiplayer-- 1.08.5 and 1.09-- the latter won't launch on Pippin and the former is nowhere to be found online.

Anybody have it? 🥺

There is a fan edit out there (I didn’t make it) called Aliens No Hope Edition that is Cameron’s special edition without the Hadley’s Hope reel and I recommend it— it’s how I screen the film for first-timers. 🤓 Anyways, enough of my blabbing… glad you made it to SDCC and for the panel!

On the flip side, though the Hadley’s Hope scenes are neat, I don’t think they add anything to the film and detract from the overall dramatic tension. I think it’s a better movie if the audience meets Newt *with* Ripley, without the advance knowledge of who Newt is or what she has already seen.

I was there; great panel! 😎 I think Aliens is a good example of how a director’s cut can both improve and not improve (impede?) a film. I agree with you that the context of Ripley’s daughter is a dramatic improvement and helps show her character’s motivation during the 2nd and 3rd acts.

I think some people have trouble seeing fascism as anything other than 1940s Germany.

But I think 'people going to a comic convention needing to have a plan in case the government's goons show up to disappear people' is a pretty good demonstration of what it can look like in 2025.
