Langford’s Official Community Plan has been shortlisted for the 2026 CIP Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence!

This plan felt pretty special when it was adopted and it’s amazing to see it amongst some inspiring projects. Thank you @brenttoderian.bsky.social for work on this!

I’ve been struggling to stay focused with the world news this week, particularly today. Finding agency with local matters is helpful.

Langford is updating our Design Guidelines!

The current guidelines were first adopted in 2008, and have only had minor updates since then. It’s now time for a refresh. The new guidelines will help achieve better design for buildings and neighborhoods and align with the new OCP.

I love this commentary on how empowering it is to have choices in your community. It’s also invigorating to know many communities in the region are contributing to a useful network of transportation ♥️

We are working on our first Active Transportation Plan that has just gone through its second phase of engagement. Protected bike lanes have become commonplace in the region, including in the Westshore with initial improvements in both Colwood & Langford.

Local governments are the closest level of government to communities and we have deep understanding of the impact of policies and investment. UBCM resolutions offer an opportunity for a low-cost and highly effective province-wide gaps analysis. It’s a shame there isn’t more space for debate.

Our resolution for Free Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy as part of Postpartum Care was supported at UBCM this week! There was even an applause ♥️

Unfortunately a new change with UBCM policy was also supported and resolutions like this will no longer be considered for debate due to local government scope.

I’ve been enjoying the effective images created by More Than a Cyclist to dismantle the othering that happens between different transportation users. There is no “cycling community” or “driving community” as our society is too complex to be contained in two boxes.

Position statement by the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia

It has been a privilege to work alongside pelvic floor physiotherapists to advocate for more equitable care for postpartum bodies, to bring more awareness to challenges that are coupled with stigma & shame and to work towards impactful outcomes for those suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction.

The 2025 UBCM Convention starts next week! After getting support from our local area association last April, Councillor Szpak and I will be bringing this forward for consideration and debate with our provincial colleagues.

I think so too. I like the idea of an additional incentive to spend time in another community. It’s great for our local businesses and the cross pollination of our diverse communities leads to inclusive and healthy relationships between neighbours. I hope more people visit by bike!

Langford community invited to have say on arts, culture, economic development Surveys are available online

There is another week left to complete 2 surveys and give feedback on Langford’s Economic Development Strategy and the Arts and Culture Strategy. There is interesting overlay with these initiatives and it’s great to have this engagement together. Visit letschatlangford.ca for more details.

I’ve heard a lot of great feedback about the bike share! You can stop a trip at any docking station in either community. Yesterday I brought a bike to Saanich for coffee, ended my trip and then picked up a different bike to ride back to Langford a few hours later. No problem!

As our active transportation options grow, our region starts to feel smaller and more connected. With so many regional trails and destinations to explore in both Langford, Saanich and across the region, the journey is now just as exciting as the destination.

Active Transportation ~ Safe for bikes, Safe for artists 😍

We have bike raves here in Victoria with a similar setup plus regular breaks for dance. They are incredibly joyful and fun, especially with the bikes lit up.

This was a delightful surprise on the bike ride home today. Spotted on the E&N trail just up from the Langford/Colwood border.
