Thinking about visiting the Ideas Fair? Consider signing up for a Bikeshop Tour and use an Evolve (or your own) bike or scooter to tour AT infrastructure in Langford. Guided tour will highlight recommendations explored in the Active Transportation Plan.

This was a meaningful event last year and Iโ€™ll be there again with my kiddos tomorrow morning. Thanks so much to @capitalbike.ca for organizing this.

Local governments are the closest level of government to communities and we have deep understanding of the impact of policies and investment. UBCM resolutions offer an opportunity for a low-cost and highly effective province-wide gaps analysis. Itโ€™s a shame there isnโ€™t more space for debate.

Our resolution for Free Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy as part of Postpartum Care was supported at UBCM this week! There was even an applause โ™ฅ๏ธ

Unfortunately a new change with UBCM policy was also supported and resolutions like this will no longer be considered for debate due to local government scope.

Mental health network for local elected officials
Councillor Brian Frenkel, District of Vanderhoof, is leading the creation of a network for local government officials to take care of each other in a job that's increasingly polarized. Mental health network for local elected officials

Elected officials expect public scrutiny as a regular part of the job, but personal attacks, especially on social media, have increased noticeably in recent years. Some local electeds are developing a peer support network focused to help. #UBCM25 youtu.be/TXqfFp3cbqY

Iโ€™ve been enjoying the effective images created by More Than a Cyclist to dismantle the othering that happens between different transportation users. There is no โ€œcycling communityโ€ or โ€œdriving communityโ€ as our society is too complex to be contained in two boxes.

Position statement by the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia

It has been a privilege to work alongside pelvic floor physiotherapists to advocate for more equitable care for postpartum bodies, to bring more awareness to challenges that are coupled with stigma & shame and to work towards impactful outcomes for those suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction.

The 2025 UBCM Convention starts next week! After getting support from our local area association last April, Councillor Szpak and I will be bringing this forward for consideration and debate with our provincial colleagues.

I think so too. I like the idea of an additional incentive to spend time in another community. Itโ€™s great for our local businesses and the cross pollination of our diverse communities leads to inclusive and healthy relationships between neighbours. I hope more people visit by bike!

Langford community invited to have say on arts, culture, economic development Surveys are available online

There is another week left to complete 2 surveys and give feedback on Langfordโ€™s Economic Development Strategy and the Arts and Culture Strategy. There is interesting overlay with these initiatives and itโ€™s great to have this engagement together. Visit letschatlangford.ca for more details.

Iโ€™ve heard a lot of great feedback about the bike share! You can stop a trip at any docking station in either community. Yesterday I brought a bike to Saanich for coffee, ended my trip and then picked up a different bike to ride back to Langford a few hours later. No problem!

This is a great discussion on how powerful it can be to support and lift alternative modes of transportation. Addressing barriers (physical and social), providing options (through share programs) and investing in safe and protected infrastructure has supported an evolution of cycling in London.

Until later phases of the project are completed, Langford has established multi-use paths as an interim measure.

I went for a walk on Latoria the first day of school and it was fantastic to see so many families walking to school!

Langford gets a taste of what bike raves are all about A roving dance party, where people travel by bicycle and other rolling gear.

This was a fantastic and fun way to end the summer and I believe it was the first mass ride in Langford. People of all ages were bopping, grooving and feeling the beat from the awesome DJs, all while riding through the streets of Langford.
