I hear you, but I think we Dems need to be more realistic that we all have said or done regrettable things. Many good people don’t run cuz they’re afraid their mistakes will be aired.
Strategically, candidates should just put it all out there up front, apologize if warranted & move on.

For the record.
My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.
I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."

Our district is hurting. People feel it in their hearts and in their aching backs. We’re not helpless – we’re mad. That’s a fire I understand, because it burns in me too.
My name is Mike Pruitt. I’m a Navy veteran, a civil rights lawyer, and now I’m running for Congress.

I keep seeing people say things like, “Well we’re not going to HAVE elections,” and with all due respect, I think this is both wildly pessimistic and also wildly naive.
We are not going to have free and fair elections. We also have not had them in the past.

I want to reiterate that countless conservative judges issued universal injunctions against the Biden administration, and the Supreme Court never halted the practice. Now, barely five months into Trump's second term, the court puts an end to these injunctions. A brazen double standard.

Come on, it's a little bit funny that Justice Alito is spending his entire Easter weekend writing a dissent about the due process rights of enemy aliens.

This isn't going to end until the judges start holding lawyers and DOJ officials in contempt and throwing them in jail.
Even that might not end it, but there's no point trying to delay the inevitable. They're just getting bolder and more destructive as they go.

NEW: DOJ doubles down on refusing to follow Judge Xinis's orders. Today's status report contains nothing new. It again fails to provide information about steps they're taking to bring Mr. Abrego back), and arguably violates her command that a declaration be made by someone with personal knowledge.

JUST IN: The Trump administration says it has "no updates" for Judge Xinis about efforts to facilitate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Reiterates that a judge in 2019 viewed him as a member of MS-13.

25 minutes away from when the DOJ is supposed to file their second daily status report on Mr. Abrego. Yesterday they seemingly refused to provide information on the steps they've taken previously and plan to take in the future to "facilitate his return." Let's see if they refuse again today.

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
DISTRICT OF MARYLAND
-Greenbelt Division-
KILMAR ARMANDO ABREGO GARCIA, ET AL.,
Plaintiffs,
Case No.: 8:25-CV-00951-PX
KRISTI NOEM, ET AL.,
Defendants.
PLAINTIFFS' MOTION FOR ADDITIONAL RELIEF
Yesterday, President Trump confirmed that the United States has the power to facilitate
Abrego Garcia's release from prison and return to the United States: "If the Supreme Court said,
"Bring somebody back,'I would do that. ... I respect the Supreme Court." Of course, that is precisely what the Supreme Court did when it ruled that this Court's injunction "properly requires
the Government to 'facilitate' Abrego Garcia's release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure
that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador." Noem et al. v. Abrego Garcia et al., 604 U.S. 2025 WL 1077101, at *1 (Apr. 10, 2025). The Government should be required to comply with the Supreme Court's order that it "ensure that his
case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador," by taking
all available steps to release and return Abrego Garcia to Maryland.
In accordance with the Court's Order authorizing Plaintiffs to seek additional relief beyond what this Court previously ordered, ECF No. 61 at 2, Plaintiffs request that the Court order three
additional types of relief. First, order the Government to take by end of the day Monday, April 14,
2024, the specific steps set forth below to comply with the injunction in this case. Second, order
expedited discovery of the Government's actions (or failure to act) to facilitate Abrego Garcia's
return to the United States. Third, order the Government to show cause by 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, as to why it should not be held in contempt due to its failure to comply with the Court's prior orders, including any failure to a comply with the Court's order of April 11, 2025 (ECF No.
61).
NEWS: Lawyers for Kilmar Abrego Garcia call for their client to be brought back to Maryland — and for the government to be held in contempt for its failure to comply with the court's orders in the case. They also ask for discovery into the gov't's actions. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

NEW: The Trump administration, via a senior State Department official, says Kilmar Abrego Garcia is alive in El Salvador's notorious CECOT prison. But they still won't say if they're doing anything to get him back.

Unless there was another sealed filing which isn’t on the docket (a real possibility), it would appear that the administration has failed to provide the required information about what they are doing to try to get him back.

I have nothing but contempt for these people. This is pathetic. I hope their reputations never recover, their best employees quit, any competent partners quit, their clients find new representation, and they go out of business in shame.

Many thanks to @annabower.bsky.social for this thread. As it makes clear, government's strategy for dealing with the order to facilitate the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia is to send Drew Ensign into court without telling him what's going on.
A few questions this raises:

Indeed, this is *exactly* what's wrong with last night's #SCOTUS ruling, as I wrote about in this morning's newsletter:
www.stevevladeck.com/p/141-abrego...
Everyone saw this coming. And yet the Court did what it did anyway.

We knew they were going to drive a truck through that deference language. Roberts is either going to have to grow a pair and unequivocally slap Trump down or just quit pretending SCOTUS cares anymore.

Agreed. But man oh man SCOTUS could & should have issues this decision on Monday. Mr. Abrego-Garcia is still sitting in that crazy prison El Salvador (if he’s in fact still alive). Disgusted at all of this.
10.04.2025 23:29 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
The fact that #SCOTUS hasn't yet ruled in Abrego Garcia isn't proof of *how* the justices are going to rule.
But the longer it takes, the more it suggests that there isn't a majority of the Court who views this dispute with the same *urgency* that so many of us do. And that's a problem unto itself.
