Really happy to see so many butterflies today in my meadow, despite no sunshine. Especially happy to see Small tortoiseshell which have been missing for most of the summer.

Let's empty the jails so we can fill them with octogenarians who care about genocide.

Only a mile or two from the edge of Belfast city, a secret gorge conceals a fragment of Irish rainforest.

Pure magic.

"Wildfires have scorched >40,000 hectares of land so far this year across the UK - already a record amount of land burned in a single year. It's also almost 4 x the average area burned by this stage of the year over 2012-24, & 50% higher than the previous record amount burned by this time in 2019."

I'm still buzzing about seeing so many Eoghan. Despite their size, they can still be tricky to find!

β€œAllianz estimates that the cost of economic losses from natural catastrophes is typically around 10 times higher than the cost of adaptation.”

Sounds like a call for political leadership. I wonder how that’s going to work ….

The degree of contrast between @donnarainey4.bsky.social 's wildflower-rich land, just heaving with invertebrates + other life, and the endless surrounding ryegrass deadzones has to be seen to be believed.

It's yet another example of why nature is dying, and how very simple the solutions are.

I don't think so. I didn't see any earlier in the summer, though they usually keep a low profile and then the fledglings appear.

The most exciting ones I remember seeing were "granny greybeards" & I had no idea what they grew into. Now I know they are White ermine moths. I've never seen a Sycamore caterpillar.
