Really happy to see so many butterflies today in my meadow,despite no sunshine. Especially happy to see Small tortoiseshell which have been missing for most of the summer.

The degree of contrast between @donnarainey4.bsky.social 's wildflower-rich land, just heaving with invertebrates + other life, and the endless surrounding ryegrass deadzones has to be seen to be believed.

It's yet another example of why nature is dying, and how very simple the solutions are.

The most exciting ones I remember seeing were "granny greybeards" & I had no idea what they grew into. Now I know they are White ermine moths. I've never seen a Sycamore caterpillar.

They've been coming here for a few years now, I'm delighted to have them.

The Spotted flycatchers have fledged in my garden. Adorable!
