Maybe it's the tired working mom in me, but a guilt-free day off to lie around waiting for the procedure, followed by an incredible nap and takeout is a legit vacation. No downsides!

Like seriously, rewatch the Ring ad. It's worth outlawing and then breaking up Amazon. This is surveillance state technology the worst authoritarian dictatorships of the past always dreamed of.

Striking paper from researchers at Anthropic using a randomised control trial to look at the effects of AI use on skills acquisition.

TL:DR β€˜We found that using AI assistance led to a statistically significant decrease in mastery.’

"You have to use it. You have to trust it.": Forced Adoption of AI is The Subtext of Davos Authoritarianism is the AI Bailout; But If AI Doesn't Need a Bailout, Does it Need Authoritarianism?

I watched a bunch of AI sessions at the WEF so you wouldn’t have to.

But you should read this.

Today is one of those days where I’m struck anew by how *bad* the internet has gotten. It’s almost unusable. Clouds, apps, advertising β€” nothing is where it should be and it’s nigh impossible sometimes to do basic tasks online.

I saw this particular kind of enshittification among British university websites over a decade ago, but the plague has spread far and wide here now too. I hate everything.

I have a whole lesson for grad-school-bound students on how to find faculty pages when university websites are so maddeningly admissions-oriented. Can you find basic details about a program? Yes, easily. Can you find out anything about the department including who teaches on the program? Good luck!

Haven’t had that one, but we (hubs owns a wine shop) stock Eins Zwei Zero’s sparkling Riesling and it’s my favorite of the many NA wines I’ve tried. I think it’s generally easier to get a pleasing sparkling NA than still.

If I could offer students one bit of…advice: be brutally traditional about what is printed on your degree.

If you are first-gen or in any way non traditional, this goes double. Let rich kids get degrees in AI. You get something called β€œEnglish”.

Lately, I have been making a list of things that my brain actively repels and will not learn, as a way of making peace with middle age and finitude. You’re reminding me to add this one.
