I was working the Bike Valet tonight directly adjacent to where VicPD shot a person with less-lethal rounds. I was not present for the incident and know nothing, and am mentally and physically fine.

That said.

It was exhausting having people coming up in a steady stream to ask what happened.

Interesting approach here from a Victoria city councillor live-tweeting her own council meeting! In the past, this would have been done by a reporter (or three). I'm not sure how many dedicated municipal reporters remain in #yyj these days.

1/ This is a solid article by the TC's @michaeljohnlo.bsky.social on police response to public drug use in #yyj. A lot of people think the City sets policy, but the article makes it clear that the police and the province make the rules, and that a lot is up to individual officers.

I'm not 100% sure if the folks hurling insults were associated with SOS or were free agents. but I'd agree that the characterization in Saanich News is incorrect. I was the only reporter in the room and I was stationed right at the exit where the heckling was concentrated
