I fundamentally disagree, and that’s okay! Not trying to change your mind. I can hold firm boundaries with the narcissist abusers in my story & hold their truths & humanity at the same time. That was not always true for me & I don’t expect any other survivors to do the same on any kind of timeline

People who casually consume her work and her media persona consistently seem to get it soooo quickly! So many mainstream swifties can’t see the forest for the trees

I see a lot of beauty when people advocate for neurodiversity (the concept that the diversity of human minds is both natural and valuable) because it communicates:

- my mind is open
- I see you
- you’re not broken
- I want society to be better

This is my point. If we distance ourselves collectively from people who do monsterous things, dehumanize them for our comfort, we’re in danger of ignoring the factors that create ppl who do these things. If we don’t understand it, we are doomed to keep repeating it. I’m in no way excusing it or them

All that is to say, some narcs are absolutely aware of the harm they cause + don’t care at all. Others (like my parent) truly believe they are the permanent victim, that they could never be at fault. Both do grave harm. Both are human beings. We can protect ourselves and strive to understand them

But I deeply understand why they are the way they are, and they are a very sensitive human who was horrifically abused in formative years, who chronically had their needs unmet and their autonomy violated. And that resulted in a very narcissistic person who is too afraid to self reflect and change

IMO it’s very important to not dehumanize people who do horrible things, because then it’s easy to write them off as monsters and never become curious about the cause. And then perpetuation of the cycle is almost certain. I am no contact with my parent, there is no get out of jail free card from me

I don’t think I’m going to change your mind nor am I trying to, but being the child of a narc, knowing all their trauma and history, it is easy to see how the traits and behaviors come to be. They don’t have to be intentionally abusive or knowingly evil to do grave harm

I don’t agree that this is applicable to every narcissist. Generalizing like this is what kept me from recognizing ppl in my life as narcissists for many years, because I knew they were highly disregulated and their behavior was not pre-meditated in many cases. Malignant narcs yes, but not every one

Totally not the point of your post, but taking ADHD meds with citrus can actually render them way less effective!! It’s a crime that pharmacists aren’t communicating this stuff but yeah we should avoid vit C with adhd meds and take them with protein

I can picture things very clearly especially when they’re from memory, but it takes a lot of energy to say, visualize a person’s face while reading a book. Most of my internal thought process is language based but if I have my eyes closed, I can visualize things much more vividly and consistently
