Not even wind assisted in this case, despite there being a reasonable breeze, they are terrified of the orcas to the extent that they will sail in the surf line with less than a hour of daylight left and 2 hours from a safe port, in this case Cascais.

Another Captain who believes his engine is immortal, he’s sailing so close to the breaking swell that they would have minutes if the engine failed, and that swell is 3+M

Tiny surf feels like summer swells not the start of Autumn

The fear of the Orcas is driving some skippers to take some pretty serious risks sailing far too close to shore, hard to see on a phone camera but this vessel is crazy close to shore

We have some skandi types who are brutally protective of their patches. No chance breaking through that

There are many hazards in the country, they were always kinda known to us country kids but the increasing urbanisation has meant many more are now learning, the country never was safe especially if you grew up on a farm, it was practically a blood sport

Yes for sure there are problems but as ever the simplistic solutions seem to be the most popular

There is unfortunately a real backlash developing that will sweep us all up if we’re not careful, particularly against American recent arrivals as the are blamed for unaffordable housing (probably unfairly)

What a whiney, hate filled excuse for an article, and despite bleating about net zero does she (an immigrant) realise this country regally runs on 100% wind and sun.
By taking an affordable house away from the Portuguese she is the problem, driving unaffordable housing and changing attitudes.

There are still supporters who miss the Salazar days here and in the village 50% voted Chega (right wing) party in the last election. Helpfully the results of every election are posted on the village social club notice board This is not the deep countryside either, we are 30mins from Lisbon.

Having grown up in a Scottish village that was scattered along a main road and only came together at school (32 pupils total in the 70s) or the Kirk and now living in a Portuguese village, I have to agree
