30.10.2025 05:16 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Every so often I watch that footage of Stevie staring at a CRINGING Buckingham singing about how he'll never get away from her and cackle. Legitimately one of the top performances ever.
30.10.2025 03:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0With a whole heaping of EWWWW fan fiction, GIRL COOTIES misogyny in there as well. And that's coming from someone who detests romantasy (while liking both fantasy and romance) because of the lack of world-building.
29.10.2025 01:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think a loooooot of the negative press is people taking advantage of a PoC enby author writing a book with nuanced presentation of ethical issues to simultaneously declare themselves Morally Superior by virtue of saying fiction is bad while indulging their racism/enbyphobia.
29.10.2025 01:11 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Holy shit you guys, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is so good. What it does with shifting perception and humanising the monster, and contrasting his atrocities against the larger atrocities of genocide/colonialism and then gradually taking it away, and then the slow dawning realisation that it's revenge.
28.10.2025 04:50 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The burden you place on BIPOC authors to be perfect is fucken exhausting.

I probably should look at back-reading the Miles Franklin award.
??? Make suggestions. I'm at a loss!
So far on my list of things to read to Improve Myself:
- Sontag by Benjamin Moser, prior to reading Sontag's works
- The Years by Annie Ernaux (Sen's pick)
- Octavia Butler's back catalogue
- Whatever I've missed of Le Guin
- Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Wolfe
- Helen Garner and Germaine Greer's works
@tillywizard.bsky.social Hey, I'm looking to Improve Myself. I have a science degree and kind of... skipped over anything that wasn't personally interesting to me once I transferred out of my 2/3 of a drama degree. What would you recommend I pick up?

24.10.2025 02:50 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm reading The Buffalo Hunter Hunter and it's like stepping onto something & then realising it's is the top of a column held up by stuff you don't know anything about. 24.10.2025 02:49 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0hear me out, THIS time "finding some fictional element from pop culture that mostly women like and deciding it should be destroyed because it's... making society immoral or something" is DEFINITELY going to get us back on the good timeline. we just need these chicks to see reason

And also, we need to get better at both tolerance and forgiveness because it is legitimately not possible to live life without mistakes and demanding that people do so or never be forgiven/be forever tied to their worst moments is... pretty awful.
And also, genuinely: at some point we have to stop demonising the other side as fascist, etc. It leads to division and means we CAN'T get anything done because imposing rules/societal norms without majority concensus is hella problematic/doomed to fail.
24.10.2025 02:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Brainrot. I liked it better when fandom is unapologetically transgressive (seriously we need to stop asking creators for permission and just revel in being the freaks we are.)

Oh! As far as I can see, matthew and paul are a gay influencer couple who decided to parlay that into writing books. They signed up for Ingram Sparks, an indie distribution company that enables you to get your book into bookshops IF you jump through hoops/fill out paperwork.
