I think a loooooot of the negative press is people taking advantage of a PoC enby author writing a book with nuanced presentation of ethical issues to simultaneously declare themselves Morally Superior by virtue of saying fiction is bad while indulging their racism/enbyphobia.

Holy shit you guys, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is so good. What it does with shifting perception and humanising the monster, and contrasting his atrocities against the larger atrocities of genocide/colonialism and then gradually taking it away,and then the slow dawning realisation that it's revenge.

The burden you place on BIPOC authors to be perfect is fucken exhausting.

Having to keep myself nice on main when what I actually want to do is talk about how leftist spaces are all "oh inclusivity! BIPOC authors!" until one of them actually succeeds and then it's all "oh they're problematic!" and full erasure of their race.

And also, we need to get better at both tolerance and forgiveness because it is legitimately not possible to live life without mistakes and demanding that people do so or never be forgiven/be forever tied to their worst moments is... pretty awful.

And also, genuinely: at some point we have to stop demonising the other side as fascist, etc. It leads to division and means we CAN'T get anything done because imposing rules/societal norms without majority concensus is hella problematic/doomed to fail.

Oh! As far as I can see, matthew and paul are a gay influencer couple who decided to parlay that into writing books. They signed up for Ingram Sparks, an indie distribution company that enables you to get your book into bookshops IF you jump through hoops/fill out paperwork.

God forbid that instead of just bitching about it and using it as a Social Justice Point to enforce their moral superiority over others that they actually be the change they want to see.
