I kind of like the flow of my sentences when I do speech-to-text. Many of them read like something I wouldn’t have been able to just type from my thoughts.

23.02.2025 20:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I’m back on 750words. I left in 2020 but recently received an email about Version 2.
That email is exactly what I needed to jump back into a writing routine.
Never leaving again, hopefully.
Apparently the #WritingCommunity is discussing unsolicited criticism this week.
Obviously, rule 1 is DON'T DUMP CRITICISM ON SOMEONE IF YOU AREN'T ASKED OMG THAT'S RUDE.
If you ARE asked to provide feedback, there's also better ways of doing that:

Put your desks in rows. Just try it for a month. Why not?

Yes, I think every educator has seen that at least a dozen times in PD sessions. Thank you for posting. However, nothing I said is denigrating the importance of positive relationships.
What my post argues is “building relationship” is not a classroom management technique to hang your hat on.
Merit/demerit system. Assigned seating. All desks facing the front. Routines for how to enter the class. Routines for how to turn in assignments. Repeating expectations every day. Holding to those expectations for all students. Early communication with parents. Just to name a few.
11.08.2024 22:19 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0If you ask a teacher “what are some of your classroom management techniques?”
And they say something along the lines of “build relationships” or “be mean/strict”
you can assume they do not have any good classroom management techniques.
Their class is probably chaos. #edusky
One for the edu-bloggers:
What is the favourite education blog you ever wrote, & why?
This one might be my favourite though because it addresses something I think is really important - the policy agenda of last 14 years has reduced subject-specificity in #ITT #ITE to such an extent that it threatens the ecology of our system.

I'd say this one below! Why? It's become foundational to my practice, supported how I lead my department and was the springboard for my talk at the inaugural LitDrive national conference, which in turn led to my first book (in draft still).

One of the hardest things for an ambitious teacher is to resist the overwhelming pressure to lower expectations for fully capable students.
The frustrating thing about this is that the pressure comes from other teachers and admin. #edusky
