I laughed out loud at this

This is a GREAT reason to make 30kph the default speed limit throughout the city!

The main source of noise in cities is… cars. Dense walkable and bikeable neighbourhoods allow people to reduce their vehicle use and thus the noise level of their environment.

I did a Jane's Walk about them a few weeks ago, and I'm hoping to do a repeat of it in August. I'll let you know when that happens. bsky.app/profile/kaph...

I learned this a few years ago when restrictive covenant litigation popped up in my neighbourhood. I was mad enough about it that I now a mid-life law student, with a fixation on the legal mechanics of restrictive covenants, and the way they perpetuate all kids of segregation.

Not to mention that these effective solutions are also relatively simple, inexpensive, and easy to implement (once you get past the political hurdles).

β€œMaking it easier to get around by transit, bicycle and on foot is not an ideological stance, it’s an acknowledgement that space on the road has to be shared among many users. However, instead of accepting this reality, too many city politicians fight rearguard actions to preserve the status quo. β€œ

I was there yesterday actually, there are racks just to the right of the doors.

Is that secure?

Time will tell…

Superman is the story of an immigrant who grew up in Kansas, landed a low-paying job as a reporter in Metropolis, and still had time for a hobby because urban housing was affordable.

Living near transit can save you up to $10K a year. It also means shorter commutes, more time at home, and cleaner air. Let’s build smarter. Curious what you’re spending on transport? Use this tool to find out:

Does In it allow batteries as well? I feel like I looked into this a couple of years ago but had it in my head that I could bring a bike but not a battery

I know two people whose children were affected by this, I don't have a lot of spare capacity on my roster of things to be mad about, but I'll make room for this one.

I’m generally cautious about cycling in the rain, but reminded myself this past week that I’m not made of marzipan and have had a lovely time in the rain.

Limiting midrise density to arterial roads is a fundamentally regressive policy that primarily benefits the upper classes. The science is unequivocal that this exposes people, usually renters, to higher amounts of pollution. The left would benefit from jettisoning this idea.

Who on earth would come to a #Janeswalk at 9am on a chilly Sunday morning to listen to me and David talk about restrictive covenants? Lots of people apparently!

Thanks to everyone who attended.

Great stuff from my pals at @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social

I love St. Jane as much as the next urbanism nerd, but we are due for a critical look at her legacy.

(I’m sure the current owners of her Annex home love having randos like us taking pictures in front of it)
