Sad I didn’t make it to #YIMBYtown this year, but at least I can relive the magic through my coffee mug. @housingnowto.bsky.social @russilwvong.bsky.social @nzorach.bsky.social

Ward 7 could have been so easy. It's been demoralizing to watch things go off the rails due to petty politicking, classic progressive purity testing, and old grudges (and frankly, a ton of sexism).

Are we ever going to learn our lesson?

A well-deserved endorsement!

I think the bigger question is which mayoral candidate is best equipped to negotiate with the province?

Or is that even possible in this political climate? The best active transport plan is useless if the province can block it through legislation.

"A municipality is a corporation."

- Section 4 of the Municipal Government Act

We are electing a board of directors in October.

McElroy is bang on.

City councils are not parliaments, which are designed to be antagonistic. City councils are boards of governance. Different rules and standards apply.

kidicalmassyyc | Instagram | Linktree Kidical Mass is a worldwide movement that aims to give youth the ability to travel safely and independently on bicycles in their cities.

Kidical Mass YYC is only 11 days away. We've got a new linktree set up & are looking for volunteers to help marshal: linktr.ee/kidicalmassyyc

Hoping some of my #yycbike friends are up for helping us give these kiddos a great first ride!

Gonna unpack this a bit. There are at least two groups of left-leaning folks here that @mikepmoffatt.bsky.social is mixing up.

1)left-leaning housing policy folks like @cwhitzman.bsky.social, Alex Hemingway who want tenure neutrality because housing (and tax) policy should be equitable to renters

The main source of noise in cities is… cars. Dense walkable and bikeable neighbourhoods allow people to reduce their vehicle use and thus the noise level of their environment.

I learned this a few years ago when restrictive covenant litigation popped up in my neighbourhood. I was mad enough about it that I now a mid-life law student, with a fixation on the legal mechanics of restrictive covenants, and the way they perpetuate all kids of segregation.

Not to mention that these effective solutions are also relatively simple, inexpensive, and easy to implement (once you get past the political hurdles).

β€œMaking it easier to get around by transit, bicycle and on foot is not an ideological stance, it’s an acknowledgement that space on the road has to be shared among many users. However, instead of accepting this reality, too many city politicians fight rearguard actions to preserve the status quo. β€œ

Is that secure?

Superman is the story of an immigrant who grew up in Kansas, landed a low-paying job as a reporter in Metropolis, and still had time for a hobby because urban housing was affordable.
