Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

In a webinar today about the threats to expression in the U.S., I said the question was ultimately more about whether people would have the courage to fight for their rights than whether they would win those fights. You do not retain rights you willingly give up.

ABC has spinelessly and swiftly responded to the government pressure and suspended Kimmel indefinitely.

2/ In 2023, West Texas A&M President Walter Wendler unilaterally canceled a planned campus drag show intended to raise money for suicide prevention. Wendler claimed drag offends and demeans women, even though he admitted “the law of the land appears to require” him to allow the performance.
