Winter aconite on a woodland floor

Snowdrops in light woodland

Winter aconites seem to be having a very good year, alongside swathes of snowdrops, in these parts. We are closing in on spring.

A sunlit cluster of white snowdrops rising through fresh green leaves, interwoven with golden winter aconites, growing in a woodland garden as the light of early spring returns.

Snowdrops are also known as ‘Candlemas Bells’, as they bloom around #Candlemas. This Christian celebration of light echoes the older pagan festival of #Imbolc, and is observed on 2nd February to mark the ritual purification of Mary after the birth of Jesus.

So it’s a pink and orange year for you, very nice and bold. I’m a fan of Elizabeth, quite big roses in my garden. I’m tempted by Coral Gardens but haven’t pushed that button just yet.

I find pigeon feathers sat like that in the garden from time to time. I’ve always suspected a cat or fox, however we do have sparrowhawks around here so now I’m wondering.
