I saw most of the members of my book club there, and all but one of the people from my tai chi class. Lots of neighbors, former colleagues, people I used to hang out with at the dog park. Parents of my kids’ friends. And, even more hearteningly, people I didn’t know!

This can’t have been the first red flag. That his parents didn’t immediately take away his allowance, ground him indefinitely, and get him intensive therapy is on them.
